I just joined Aerodrome yesterday, and I take it that the protocal is to introduce one's self. So here goes:
After months of sitting on the fence, I finally took the plunge and purchased some Wings of Glory WWI airplanes (and one duel pack). Decades ago, I played TSR's Dawn Patrol , but that never really got off the ground (sorry for the pun) as I found the game a bit too fiddly.
Fast forwarding to today, I'm the father of five budding gamers (aged 5-12). I'm always on the lookout for something to play with them. We've tried a lot - from Risk to Axis and Allies to Memor '44 to Conflict of Heroes. With the proper teammates, even the little ones can get into the action. But I kept looking for a game that was more manageable for our group - something smaller scale. What could be smaller scale than a single aircraft (or two) per player?
I tried dusting off Dawn Patrol, but still couldn't get it to work for us.
After reading and reading the WoG rules (basic), it seemed to hit the spot perfectly.
I've yet to play - my WoG order is still in transit. But I (we) can't wait. I'm sure it will be a hit.
Finally - if I may - is anyone aware of stores here in northern NJ (Bergen County) that carry Wings of Glory products? I've only been able to find them on the Internet.
Thank you!
Cheers!
