Thread: Ares Battle of Britain theme

  1. #1

Default Ares Battle of Britain theme

I have heard that this year Ares intend to make some themed releases for WW2
Battle of Britain being one theme.
Have we any information as to what will definately be in this theme yet ?

Just reprints of Spitfires, Hurricane, ME109 and the rest? All these would be gratefully received I'm sure

Or will there be a new aircraft or two ?

I know about possible reprint of BOB planes and plans for a duel pack Bf.109 vs. Hurricane od Spitfire.

The rest is just hidden in the fog of war, Chris.
    Voilà le soleil d'Austerlitz!

These we really need. Especially those of us who started too late to catch Nexus first wave.

That would be nice. Give the rest of us a chance to catch up and get some out of prints.

I didn't enlist to WW2 till well after series 1. This will be a great series for me!

I understand you fully chaps, but if I were ARES I would go for "channel fighters" with Spitfires Vs versus Bf 109Fs or even better: Fw 190As. Just my 2 cents

I want them to, Andrzej, but the newbies and prospective recruits really need the iconic BoB planes to get them hooked

I could not agree more, Karl, as far as the incentive factor is in play.

This year would be the best marketing ploy with it being the 75th Anniversary.
So I would hope for reprints of the fighters with perhaps one new Bomber for the Axis and possibly a Blenheim for the Raf

Me, too. And I hope that Ares doesn't limit themselves to reprinting 109s and Spits... I would love to see a Roland Robert Stanford Tuck Hurricane.

Yes, because Ares is great at tying in with significant anniversaries, just look at the War of 1812 tie in for SGN

How about a Boulton Paul Defiant for a one off series?

Yes Dave, sorry, momentary lapse, silly me.

I would like a fighter version of the Blenheim for BoB and would certainly get a BP Defiant, also a Whirlwind, they were available but didn't take part I know.
But my real wish is for an official Do17 or JU88.
I was lucky I got my planes right at the beginning so got plenty of Spits, see the Sqn painting thread, plus 8 or 9 Me109 and 5 Hurricanes. I have kept harping on about core models as the number of people who have asked about the basic aircraft at shows are quite large.

    Andy,
Stop confusing the history noobs. There were no FW190s in the Battle of Britain. "Channel Fighters", yes. But the FW190 wasn't fighting until June 1941, if my research is correct.

So, it didn't take part in the battle, unless as a "what if?".

Mike, oh Mike, of course I do know the facts and dates of service of particular fighters on both sides! I just think that air fights over the Channel in the years 1941-42 (mostly Spits V, Bf 109F/Gs and early FW-190s) were equally interesting as the strict BoB period! And the Ares range of products would be vastly increased!

For a what-if, how about Griffon-Spitfires, Tempests and Meteors against Schwalbes, Ta 152H Höhenjägers and Pfeils; Seelowe '46 anyone?

I don't expect any new sculpts for the BoB release... just a mix up of the one already out over the early Series. Do expect a big change in the release format though. They are not following the initial release format and they are not following the re-print release format we know from WGF. You guys that do repaints should probably start saving up some extra cash to buy multiples.

WGS is made to simulate "rhubarbs"! I would love to see Spit Vs (although IXs can certainly stand-in, as the differences were mostly firewall forward), and I need me my 190As!

I'm using IXs for the Malta shindig but just with two cannons and Malta type camo, whic can range from standard paint scheme, through slight yellowish wash rubbing off, to full on Desert warpaint.

Going through his wiki page, seems like he was a colossal hypocrite along with Hitler himself in saying he trusted the good Lord. A wolf in sheeps clothing.

Back to the planes. I think I sense some duel packs being released. Possibly a Bader vs Galland? Would love to see a Keith Park and Robert Stanford-Tuck Hurricane.

Has there been any news on this? I am very interested in this pack. I recently found a computer game called "The Few" and I have become enamoured by this battle. As an aside "the few" is a great game for pc.

We are still slated to see the BoB "reprints" later this year. I'll dig though my emails this weekend and see if I can give more of a time line.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply. Not to speak for everyone, but a time line of this year is fine no need to dig through emails. Has there been any word on what planes will be reprinted? Will they be in a duel pack similar to WoGF? Thanks again for the reply.

Planes from Series 1 and 2 will be combined into the BoB release. The pilots/paint jobs are being reworked heavily, and there will be a Duel Pack of sorts... with the single plane packs as "supporting actors" if you will. This is all from memory from multiple emails spread out over nearly a year in time... so I could be off a little bit the details, but I think I'm fairly close.

It's my passion to invest in Wings of Glory products.

I've got a minimum of 1 plane per released plane type and

    a) I'm not going to change this
    b) Ares Games supplies us with the needed new planes

I'm curious for the WGS reprints and hope the the WGF KS keeps me busy until the anouncement of the BoB concept.

I want an Theodor Osterkamp Bf.109!

110s and 111s are still available now... I've got them in stock at the AA store. You should expect to see 109s and Stuka as well as Sprits and Hurrics as the foundation minis.

As someone who missed the first two Nexus WW2 releases because of a fixation with WWI I will be pleased just to get a chance at some aircraft, without having to rely on the good natured generosity of my fellow pilots to bail me out all the time.
I am most indebted to those who have helped me build up a credible air force over the last few months.
Thanks chaps, but it will be great to be able to run wild.
