Cool WGS: A companion for the Universal Solo Diceless Chart

Based on the hard work of Blackronin and OldGuy59 here, I have developed a webapp that should speed up generating the movement cards.

The app is hosted here: http://johnandrachael.com/wings/
The usage is relatively simple: Choose the sector of the enemy plane, the distance, and then hit 'Engage' to see the movement / speed of the AI pilot.
Refer to the PDF for explanation of symbols.

While I am a programmer by day, my experience is not with web technologies or design. To that effect, I've put the project on github if anyone would like to contribute.
    https://github.com/RiotInferno/wgsSoloChart

Feel free to leave feedback and/or bugs here, on github or in a PM.

I did some basic testing with both my PC and iPhone and it worked as easily on mobile as it did in desktop, providing my mobile was turned landscape, not portrait.

edit: I just noticed the title is "Universal Solo Dice Chart" when it should be Diceless. whoops.
edit #2: I just learned how to edit the title! Forum software has made tech advances I was unaware of!

    John,

Outstanding work. Thank you for sharing the app!

Will you make a WW1 version too?

There may be an app for WWI, as I'm taking a college course in Web App Design. Who knows, I might need a project toward the end of the semester, and I'll attempt this idea.

It's a javascript/html5 app, so it should work on any browser.

I did a quick check with my Kindle and it appeared to work just fine. Again, with mobile devices, it really only likes being in landscape mode.

Works just fine with my Android tablet, although I'm not familiar with the cards or charts. Very nice for when I do make it over to WGS solo play.

    That's a great little App!

There is a more complex one for X-Wings Miniatures of Glory that takes in to account different class of ships, so maybe this is something you clever folks could look into, different AI responses for Bombers and Two Seaters????

For those interested here is the app for the X-Wings Miniatures of Glory AI app.

This app just mimics what Blackronin created with his Universal Solo Diceless Chart. He's the brains behind the AI, I just gave it a web interface.
If there's any updates to the chart or the AI, I'll try to roll them out to the app.

    ...
    James,
The Solo Rules for WGF and WGS are for all the planes, and I don't believe the size of the plane has been considered. For this app, and the Solo Rules, you are using the maneuver deck from the appropriate plane, and selecting maneuvers from that deck. Speed and amount of turn are dependent on the deck, so "size" is adjusted that way.

X-Wing has ship models with different maneuver keys, so you have to input the type of ship that is flying AI to get the right options of maneuver templates out of the program. There might be a way to do that with John's app, so that any special maneuver options are only provided to an appropriate deck.

The app I'd write for WWI would provide a graphic from Joaquim's card decks, with all the maneuver options on it, to take care of the "size" issue. Or, if I can, I might have the user enter a Maneuver Deck, and then only maneuvers available to that deck would appear. We'll see how my education goes.

Right now it only exists on my website, but the code is open-sourced on github ( see the first post ), if anyone would want to make an APK out of it.
I don't have any experience with android development, at this time.

I'm glad everyone is finding it useful! Thanks for all the kind feedback.

The application itself is hosted as a webpage, so any PC with internet access should be able to access it.
If you're finding yourself in a situation where you won't have internet ( perhaps a laptop at a con ), if you're more techno-minded you could download the project from github and run it via node.js's debug server implementation.

When I get a chance this week, I'll write up instructions on how to host this offline for PCs.
    It shouldn't be too difficult.

Great app, it really speeds things up! I have a question. How are people handling the orange boxes? are you drawing actual cards to figure out the maneuver or keep clicking engage until one of those maneuvers pops up?
    Thank you

I really should come up with some form of documentation for this thing
The way it's programmed, if you get a special move (orange box), treat it as if that's the one the chart had given you and follow the chart's instructions.
The probability of the AI pilot performing a special move is already calculated into the app.

    All,
My college course in web applications won't be the right course to get this into a portable iPad/Android app. The Ruby on Rails apps are server based. Darn.

However, several associates are taking the Mobil App course, and are producing things for that. I will talk to them about taking this on as a project. Cross your fingers.

    Mike,
If you want to work together on producing an actual app based on our work, I'd be happy to help out with it.

    Edit:
It looks like web framework I used ( enyo.js ) is able to be deployed as an ios or android app.
    http://enyojs.com/docs/2.4.0/deployi...eployment.html

The downside here is that creating the ios app itself requires a mac, which I don't have. Based on these instructions, I could probably whip an android app though.

    Sounds like a race!
Now I have no experience publishing apps, so I imagine that's where the hold-up will be, if any.

So, my order or work is currently:
    Android App
Chrome App ( for desktop use )
ios App, unless Mike and his associates get to it first.

While waiting for my android emulators to spin up, I cobbled this together:
    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...gkgfjchgjneefo
It's not a public listing, so the URL is required to install it.
This should be use-able offline, and is probably the closest that I'll get to a stand-alone application for PCs or Laptops (unless this doesn't work offline for some reason).

Teaser Screenshot for the upcoming Android app:

Name:	teaser.jpg

Size:	89.2 KB

I still have a little bit of work to do, then there's some legwork required to get it uploaded to the app store.

    All,
I finally sat down with my associate, and it will be an android app to start. However, we are looking at doing this as a Maneuver Deck specific app. Perhaps even a Pilot Skill choice, too?

With that, I will need a maneuver deck guide, and perhaps the option of special decks (EG: J*). The chart by Eric [7eat51] might work, but I'd have to do some graphics, and it doesn't include the modified decks (WGS Aircraft and Maneuver Deck Matrix). Suggestions?

Any chance this would work on a Blackberry?
