Well I managed to arrive at Sheffield without the delights of an early morning hello from South Yorkshire's finest 'traffic calming yellow money boxes' looking forward to a great weekend.
We had plenty of space and soon we were all set, Chris (Boney10), Tim (Flying Helmut), Mr and Mrs Wing Commander and Capt. Hedeby in correct attire for once (with the chastisement of my Squadron Leader still ringing in my ears from last time)

Right first up we have Sopwith Pups against Albatross D.IIs. As we were still a bit quiet there was a chance to play with a pair of Puppies, I mean pups !
A nice mid war skirmish with lots of dinky 'B' gunned scouts trundling about between the clouds....
err what do you mean the Huns have guns? well two each to be precise... so 4 x B firing against 4 x A firing - this will end well... obviously

The valiant RFC take to the skies on the hunt for the Hun

    Name: IMG_1517.jpg
Views: 344
Size: 88.6 KB

Aah there he is skulking in the scenery - the Kraut in the cloud !

    Name: IMG_1518.jpg

It begins well with the RFC showing some good team work against Herr Von Kytel and his men...

Making our tight turns work for us (as long as its to the right, lol) we soon have Fritz in deep trouble

    Name: IMG_1524.jpg

Pulling alongside to flick the two fingered greeting.. that will unnerve him

    Name: IMG_1525.jpg
Views: 345
Size: 101.2 KB

Yep- as I thought, upset him that much he has undertaken a spot of aerial arson on one of our pups

    Name: IMG_1528.jpg
Views: 334

Things turn from bad to wurst... those 'A' guns begin to take their toll...

    Name: IMG_1531.jpg
Views: 338
Size: 119.5 KB

But fear not Capt. Hedeby has Herr Von Kytel in his sights, and its an equaliser ! (Incidentally the Wingco in his German guise did burst into flames just before he burst into pieces, maintaining the honourable tradition)

    Name: IMG_1533.jpg
Views: 337

Alas things then go from bad to worse (as a young lady joins the Huns to show them how it should be done) and before long its gets a bit messy

Time to play 'spot the difference'.. here are the RFC (synchronised flaming)

Here is the Hun - not a bloody scratch

    Name: IMG_1538.jpg

Before long there is only Hedeby left, one vs. three, on fire with damage coming from all sides, quick head for the clouds...

    Oh well maybe next time.

And now for something completely different....

    err WHERE'S MY WHEELS ?????

Bit of a seaside bash this one with everyone using the new Macchi Seaplanes (on both sides - so no bleating about being outgunned this time - hope I don't need another excuse later, lol)

All things aside these things seem ridiculously quick for a big plane with one wheezy pusher engine, but I am soon on the tail of the enemy

I wonder if there were any recorded dog fights between flights of seaplanes - must have been really bizarre

Well Capt. Hedeby sets another record - the first recorded loss of one of the new seaplanes.... on fire, no guns (jammed), no zero damage cards drawn, no points left... sigh must be beer o'clock, as I shuffle off to sulk into a cold pint. The rest of the Entente faired little better, so its Huns 2 - Entente 0, and all before lunch...

Right it's payback time, a quick visit to Stafford Games for an extra wingman, the cellophane eagerly torn from a fresh deck, ooh that new card smell...

    Ok...

    Rear Gunner? Check
    Lots of guns? Check
    Double entendre's? Check

Yup its finally time to get my Bristols out...

Bloody typical... I wait all day to play with a nice pair of Bristols and its all over just as I get started !!

So the score for Saturday as the RFC go down to another pasting was Germans 3, Allies 0

Right then Sunday's report.. and after losing every game on Saturday I was determined today would be different...

Talking of different we decided (well I badgered...) to fly Spad VIIs against Albatross D.IIIs. Having decided that the 23 Squadron British Spad was the prettiest plane I have ever seen, I rushed off to Stafford Games and bought two more, tore off the wrappings and 'hey presto' we have a flight of gorgeous little Spads joined for the day by one of our illustrious Entente colleagues Senior Kytolini in his Italian Spad.

Chocs away... lets hunt some Hun... Hedeby takes two of the Spads, QB Fox takes another (I wonder what the QB stands for....Quick Brown I assume?)

I told you they were pretty...

    Name: IMG_1559.jpg

I like these planes.. Oooh they are quick, in fact they are bloody quick, hang on where is the tight turn card? have I been sold a dud? aah here's a turn, what !! its even faster than the straight.
Hmmm all of a sudden early morning confidence melts away. Why make such a pretty plane and only give it ONE BLOODY GUN !!!!!! what were they thinking??

    Right battle is joined

So OK the QB in QB Fox obviously means QUICK BOOM - fresh out of the box, one shot and fresh out of hits.... not a good start

    Name: IMG_1573.jpg

The D.III that was on fire finally explodes, I am sure I fired at him last, I will ask the heroic Italian pilot, oh no he's gone, better claim that one then...

All the Huns are badly damaged we can win this one

    Aah maybe we can't

    Name: IMG_1577.jpg

The fabulous Mr. Fox flying the last of the Spads against two D.IIIs all planes have 1 hit left ....

bugger (again) that's another win for the Imperial Powers, as yet undefeated for the weekend.

Having succumbed to the Sails of Glory starter set for an amazing Ł40 I am off in search of HMS Victory - having decided the only way I will get a victory this weekend is to buy one..

Would you believe it - sold out - so Hedeby can't even buy a victory this weekend..

OK here is my view of the weekend

To start L-R FO Kyte ( Rob), Mrs Kyte (Eileen) Hedeby (Chris- lurking near the banner ) Myself Boney10 (Chris) and Flying Helmut (Tim)

Tim's display Table (I don't need to bring anything anymore, cheers Tim)

Game 1 Albatross DII against RFC Pups
Off go the RFC searching for the Hun

    Lurking Huns

    Found them

    The battle ensues

The Pups close in for a kill

    To coin a phrase "Rats"

    Next Game

    Seaplanes
    Yes there was water

    But some preferred land

But both land and sea were available

Game Three A chance for Hedeby to play with his beloved Bristols

Unfortunately there was a lurking Boom card, bet you cannot guess who picked it after going out and getting a brand new Bristol .... yep

Brian delivered the Coup de Grace as you can tell by the smile

    The Teeside boys

Next we have a Gotha raid

Four start out against a few Bristols ( you'll hear a lot about Bristols over the weekend )

One Gotha heads to target two after dropping the first load in the village main street

After hitting the second target, home for schnitzel and Beer

    Unfortunately not to be

    Approaching third target

    Another Gotha down

    That was day 1

    Day 2

We start off with Alb DIII against single gun Spad VII

Albatross not doing so well against the single B gun Spads ....please note Hedeby

The Italian Spad zaps an Albatross after taking on three of them at one stage

It seems that Albatross' are quite adept at smoking and burning

Next Game the Zepp takes to the stage

After the monster are SE5a and a lone Bristol... bet you cant guess who the pilot was

    The Entente close in

Suddenly out of the cloud pops a Bristol , first shot and

So time for a quick last dogfight
SE5a ( as they hardly got a shot off) against Fokker DVII

A great weekend thanks to all who came along and assisted and took part, look forward to the next one.

Lots more pics in my album marked as Sheffield Triples 2015 enjoy

So where were we, Spad game done before lunch and shopping spree and now it was down to business for the main event. Herr von Kyte has whipped his Zeppelin out on to the table and before I could dive into my plane boxes to locate a shiny new Bristol a Mancunian based flight of SE5s were tearing through the early afternoon sunshine after the looming aerial colossus that was heading over the coast.

Whilst the SE5s maneuvered into position I decided to adopt my usual ultra cautious style and fly flat out straight at the floating leviathan and give it a close range blasting with my night-fighter armed Bristol's many many guns. Using this abbreviated rule set rather than Squadron Leader Skafloc's epic control board of endless hit points this promised to be a Zep fight that actually went the distance.

OK even I didn't expect it to go that well !!! Bang and the blimp is gone (Barry Scott would be proud)

so 35 minutes to set up game, 4 minutes to play it.....

Now I'm not sure what the going rate is for 'one shotting' a zeppelin is but the letters V and C do spring to mind.

All I have to do now is try and spell 'Zeppelin Killer' properly on my amended profile page, lol

I know my squadron leader must be beaming with pride.

Final scrap of the day (and hastily arranged after the somewhat early demise of a certain airship... one shot.. awesome !)

So we have One of Tim's ever so pretty Fokker DVII flights against the SE5s that had nothing to do in the previous encounter.

Err didn't we start out with the same number of planes on each side?

There was some spectacular flying from the Huns (told you those planes looked nice)

An intense dogfight ensued with planes everywhere.

Aah Tim's wonderful 'what if?' DVII - blimey if Richthofen had got hold of one of those he could have hit the hundred mark.

A couple of kills each was all we managed before old father time shuffled in to play and we had to call it a day

So another event down, great fun as always, brilliant job as usual by Chris Rob and Tim, and although we didn't win any awards this time one of our members present in another guise (well done Richard) won the best participation game for his Rorke's Drift fight.

    Great report Chris.
I loved the way you described my somewhat spectacular walk on part in "Pop goes the Sausage."
As you say, I'm sure your Squadron Leader will be very pleased. Pleased that it was not another Flat top.
    Rob.
