GWAC Scenario 03: Ypres – by WWIflyingace

The Belgians, British and French won the race to the sea, but the Germans attack in several places along the front looking for weakness. Time and again they push Entente forces back, but are unable to win a decisive battle. But they continue the attack hoping for a breakthrough…

The situation:
This is a reconnaissance mission; you are to identify troop movements and positions.

Objective:
If flying a German aircraft your objective is to find the weak points in the Entente line in order to steer your forces towards them. Then return to your side of the map. Your observer has a single shot rifle.

If flying an Entente aircraft your objective is to find where the German attacks are coming from in order to shore up the defensive line. Then return to your side of the map. Your observer has a single shot rifle; if flying a single seat aircraft the weapon may be fixed, but only has half a firing arc depending on the side where the weapon is attached.

If you get shot down or are forced to retreat due to excessive damage before completing the mission you lose.

Setup:
Use playing cards or numbered tokens to represent cadre, weak, medium, and full strength infantry units (Ace or 1 through 4). If possible use two different colors to distinguish the two sides. Use as many cards or tokens as you like depending on how involved you want the scenario. These items are placed on top of trench cards. Place three AA artillery cards on each side to liven things up for the aircraft involved…

Aircraft start anywhere on their own side of the line outside of AA range.
