    Default Contenders

a few of my buyings are just to have the planes and acces that stared in some of the most famouse duels in WW2. Here are two of them:
    Georges Guynemer's SPAD S.VII vs Ernest Udet's Albatros D.III

Guynemer's SPAD is an out-of-the-box official mini from Ares. Only added a 1/144 pilot from Reviresco
Udet's Albatross D.III is a repainting from Nexus official mini. Good-grain looking fuselage was achieved by applying a mix of burnt-sienna and raw-umber oil-based colors (1:1) over a matt-white base. Decals are home-made printed.

Nicely done! That Udet is eye-catching! Was it originally a Voss D.III?

Manfred von Richthoffen Albatros D.II vs Lanoe Hawker Airco DH.2

Hawker's DH.2 is an out-of-the-box official mini from Ares. Only added a 1/144 pilot from Reviresco
MvR's Albatross D.II is a repainting (actually more an 'improving' than a proper re-painting) from Ares official mini. Good-grain looking fuselage was achieved by applying a mix of burnt-sienna and raw-umber oil-based colors (1:1) over a matt-white base. numeral decals are home-made printed.

    Thanks Christopher
    No, it was originally Hautzmayer's.
But your guess is close because of the top-wing cammo
Voss' one is light-green/dark-green/red-brown; Udet's is light-green/red-brown/dark-green. Same colors, diferent order. It was a complete re-painting. A tip: top-wing crosses are 1/72 decals. I've found out 1/72 decals for fuselage work just fine as 1/144 top-wing markings. A good news since it's easier to finde good quality decals on 1/72 than on 1/144. These ones I got from spare decals from an Eduard's 1/72 Albatross D.Va

Great job there. Love the wood effect which I am going to try and copy as I have both oil paints in my paint box. (Good for speed painting lots of horses too)

That's what I was thinking... I would not have realized the difference. Learn something new every day.

I can see the AARs for two epic encounters in the offing here Ezekiel.
What very fine repaints you have produced once again.

Great work on the wood grains, and thank you for the helpful decal tip.

I agree with Rob; these pairings would make for nice AARs.
