Thread: Merry Christmas to you all, my friends.

Default Merry Christmas to you all, my friends.

Because there is nothing like love and art, I leave you with the words of Bob Dylan in a strange yet beautiful and profound Christmas card.

Love Minus Zero / No Limits

My love she speaks like silence
    Without ideals or violence
She doesn't have to say she's faithful
Yet she's true, like ice, like fire
    People carry roses
And make promises by the hours
My love she laughs like the flowers
    Valentines can't buy her.

In the dime stores and bus stations
    People talk of situations
    Read books, repeat quotations
    Draw conclusions on the wall
    Some speak of the future
    My love she speaks softly
She knows there's no success like failure
And that failure's no succes at all.

    The cloak and dagger dangles
    Madams light the candles
    In ceremonies of the horsemen
Even the pawn must hold a grudge
    Statues made of match sticks
    Crumble into one another
My love winks, she does not bother
She knows too much to argue or to judge.

    The bridge at midnight trembles
    The country doctor rambles
    Bankers' nieces seek perfection
Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring
The wind howls like a hammer
The night blows cold and rainy
My love she's like some raven
At my window with a broken wing.

    Bob Dylan 1965

I baked lots all 4 of the cookies my mother used to do when I was young. I'll bake the Christmass chocolate pecan pie, Deborah will be in charge of dinner.

I'll get up to Deborah's late on the 24th so on the 25th we'll eat well and relax with a game or two of Wings!

Peace and love to you all!

We're many in my family. The children almost a dozen. We dinner together than the children go into a treasure hunt around midnight looking for their presents. Then we all trade gifts. The 25th we launch together again. Almost 40 around the table. That's the best part.

No presents until Christmas morning when we all sit around the Tree & the youngest distributes the presents one by one so everybody can enjoy who gets what.

This year, it is all family and friends.

Last year, we decided that we really didn't need presents. All the money we normally budget for presents went to charity, and we made our Christmas meals our celebration. We are doing the same this year. There will be 16 people around the table, no where near Joaquin's horde, but big for us. We share cooking and hosting between houses and families, to lighten the burden.

May the best day of last year be the worst of the next!

Christmas starts tonight in France . Our daughter and grandson are with her in laws in Beauvais near Paris but will be down to us at the end of the week. Our son and family live in La Linea on the Gibraltar / Spain border and therefore benefit from Christmas tomorrow (as he works in Gib) and again on the 6th of Jan, the Epiphany, which is the Spanish "Christmas "

Mary and myself will be having our Christmas meal tomorrow in between Skyping the rest of the family & friends in the UK. And the presents bought on line will arrive soon I hope

To all of you in the Drome Joyeux Noel.

Andrzej, is that a cloven fruit I see on the table. I have fond memories (not Christmas traditions) of such from the medieval group I'm in.

A Merry (late) Xmas guys! We usually celebrate 24 and 25 here and besides eating a lot I didnt get many exciting things. But the intention is what counts and just seeing the smile on my little cousin when getting a new bike made me happy.
    Happy new year too!
