    Default Removing decals

I am considering a couple of re-paints of factory models including doing a 'proper' silver Pfaltz DIII instead of the silly pale grey version supplied. I know I can source new decals but my question is: 'how easy is it to remove existing decals?'

Should I not bother or do I use sticky tape to pull them off or water to slide them off?

    Advice please.

    Barry,

The company that makes the miniatures puts a very heavy top coat on them. I found the best solution to be either Vallejo airbrush cleaner (Do not use Tamiya as it will melt the model!) or Tamiya Acrylic thinner.

Just soak a tissue and rub away, you might want to go easy as it may remove the paint also.

On the recommendation of someone else on this forum, I tried an acetone free nail polish remover for acrylic nails.
    It worked a treat.

OK, alternatively is it better to leave the old decals on?

A cross over a cross or a roundel over a roundel? Does it notice?

Be aware that if you put a decal over a decal, if they overlap at all it does show through as a darker image on photos, like a shadow, not too noticeable to the eye though

I've scraped them off with a blade Barry, catch an edge & it works fine.

I have used white vinegar on decals. It made them brittle enough to scratch off using my fingernail.

I don't think the ones on the planes come off well, I usually just paint over them and apply my own.

As I mentioned before Vajello airbrush cleaner removes them very easily with just a little rubbing its what I use for all my repaints or cleaning up.

Use an old blade - it will get the decal off with less chance of cutting into the paint - or your thumb !
