Thread: Caproni Capers

    Default Caproni Capers

Baxter and I were down to do a night mission but the evening got off to a late start and so we opted for a simple bombing mission - Caproni with Hanriot escort vs Albatross D.III, Albatross D.Va and AA fire.

Great fun, target bombed, heavy flak damage to the Caproni and no shoot-downs!

The run up to the target as the incoming aircraft thread their way between AA fire - where are those darned Albatrii?

Ah, there they are - the Caproni takes a hit and begins to trail smoke:

Target destroyed, time to head for home (still trailing smoke) and hope that the Hanriot can hold off the opposition:

The Hanriot and Albatrii slug it out while the Caproni heads for the barn pursued by more AA fire from gunners more than little upset:

A last well-aimed burst of AA fire rattles the fillings of the Caproni crew but that darned plane still continues to fly!

Meanwhile the gunners, having reloaded, switch their attention to the Hanriot but their poor aim plus that vicious sideslip ability of the Hanriot means that it escapes their evil intent:

The Caproni makes it to home base (with a wounded rear gunner) after a successful raid, the Hanriot avoids being shot down, the Albatrii suffer multiple gun jams and my wife arrives bearing tea and coffee for the thirsty pilots.

    Good job all round!

    Thanks BigglesDownunder

One very lucky Caproni crew managed to thread the needle between two flak bursts. Interesting that no planes were actually shot down during the mission. It was a lot of fun. Next week the Gotha is having a go.

I tried my Caproni on my last sortie. Thoroughly enjoyed it, as it seems you did in this AAR.
I would say my Italian planes are a new personal favourite.

Yes they are tough birds to shoot down - though perhaps that was just my ineptitude in the cockpit!
