Thread: Deck the Halls with Elven Effigies

Default Deck the Halls with Elven Effigies

With the holidays coming ever closer, I was absolutely delighted when Roger, our mail carrier, backed his truck down our winding driveway and hoisted out a gigantic parcel from Clipper Dave. Truly the master had the elves working overtime. Here are a few images, including a couple showing the sly fashion in which festive Zeppelins can Zap hall-decking decisions. But wait......what lies concealed there betwixt the L-7 and L-42? Roger was having a really outstanding day. In the same delivery there arrived a selection of Derek Barratt's marvelous 1/200 Metalmodels. Shown here are the 1930's Heinkel He 70, Lockheed Orion, Airspeed Courier, and Northrop Alpha.

Ron you have TWO Zeppelins and a wooden Koala & Boomerang!

What more could a man want---plus I spied quite a few Blimps!

    What a superb house.
I can well imagine both Elves and Zeppelins frolicking there during the festive season Ron.

A number of questions about the pictures I posted. Let's see........

The framed model set on the server behind the Zeppelins are Comet Metal Products ID models in 1:432 scale. They were made during WWII as ID models and distributed in mega quantities. Into the 1950's and maybe later Comet offered them as "Authenticast". Subsequently they were reproduced by Alnavco and doubtless others. Dennis Ramsey has written on them recently if anyone is interested. The tooling and brass masters still exist.

The wood thingie with eyes on the table below the Comet set is not a sex toy. It is an Inuit carving in driftwood depicting a particularly nasty evil spirit. The small wooden case of models to the left of the evil guardian spirit are a set of 1/200 AFV and vehicle models made by Wiking Modellbau. The choice of models in this set suggests to me that they were chosen for teaching the set-up and convoy movement of a flak site.

The "other zepp's" on the cross beam are Tin Wizard metal "Zeppelin" which is actually closest to a 1/200 Goodyear blimp K-ship, the last Topping blimp, and two Herpa 1/200 new Zeppelins. The blimp on the bookcase is a Philippines mahogany model in nominal 1/200 but definitely overscale.

The Aussie carvings of koala and boomerang came back with SWMBO from a dragonboat competition near Cairns. I O'ed and stayed here.

An old friend in Connecticut was so moved by the sight of indoor Zeppelins that he sent the attached article.

Yours for the The One True Scale

I lovely room, Ron. I like the wood, and all the airships. The guard cat is impressive too.

Then in the hallway behind those are 5 boxed arrangements of WWII Wiking ID models from the gnomes of Unter den Eichen. The ravening beast on the floor is 12 pounds of savage cunning disguised as Bo Jangles Loki, our miniature schnauzer.

Now to dig out the garlands, invite the requisite elves, nymphs, trolls, and bartender..............

Off to fire practice. We're practicing bus rescue at the expense of a moribund school conveyance.

Wow! Just wow! My SWMBO gets the hump when I put just one of my die-casts on the shelf.

    That's a 'guard dog' not a 'kitty'.

Can we please have a Christmassy photo of the room decked out - it must look super!
Never mind the planes - I just love the wooden beams.

What an awesome way to display the Wiking models, Ron - kudos on the clear shadow boxes! Now I have to look around to see if I have anything to display that way...

    All the best,
    Matt
