Default Questions from a beginner - models and manoeuvre deck cards

    Hi chaps

I have just started with WoG for WW2 games although I have played the WW1 version with friends on a number of occasions. I bought a set of the rules last weekend and have ordered a bunch of models from the web.

Just a couple of beginners queries if you will indulge my ignorance.

    1. I have ordered some models off Amazon (Spit mkIX, FW190, Yak1 etc) but I have been unable to find any Me109s or F4 Wildcats. Can anyone suggest where in the UK I might find some or recommend any particular suppliers?

    2. I have just received the FW190 and Spitfire Mk IX models in the post and it looks as though the manoeuvre deck cards are larger than the ones for my Hurricane and Yak 1. I am at work and don't have a comparison set for the Yak 1 to hand. Is this the case and if so are they still compatible with each other?

    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to the Forum, Max
    1. Bf 109s are the hardest to get anywhere. F4s are easier to find. UK Wingmen will help you find some, I am sure. Since your WingCo will soon be on short leave, contact Neil AKA Skafloc in this case.
    2. These are just faster planes. Thus the cards are bigger! All the Nexus/Ares minis are compatibile.

That was a fast reply - thank you.

Ref 109s, I'll just have to keep looking for these then - I'm in no rush as I've got plenty to be getting on with.

Ref card sizes - I was wondering if this was the case. It makes sense now.

Thanks again for the quick reply.

    best wishes

    Hi Max.
I can now formally welcome you on behalf of the U.K. Wing.
I am new to WW2 as well and am fishing around a lot.
I suggest you make your number with the chaps on the U.K. sub forum, and ask there as more of us will see you on there.
As Andy said I'm off on leave in an hour or so, but if you PM me Monday, I will try and help you if you are still stuck by then.
    Fly safe.

Max, welcome to the Drome from Cape Cod.

Sadly the 109s are very scarce. I started getting WW2 planes last spring and haven't found any myself. Hopefully they will do a reprint in the future.

Welcome to the site Max. We will see 109s and Wildcats reprinted again, but some time next year for the 109s (and other BoB planes).

Keith, as someone new to the forum myself, have reprints been discussed publicly by Ares at any point or is this more a case of "insider" information? Do you know if any planned reprints would be the same pilots/liveries as previously released?

Max, Mighty Ape Games here in Australia has quite a few hard to get Wings of War WW2 aircraft as well as the newer Wings of Glory issues.
He has an on line store so a Google search will find him.
Good to deal with & postage to the UK is not outlandish so if you get desperate you could give him a try.

Max they are all right about the 109s and Wildcats. Pretty much all the Wings of War war birds are getting scares. I was one of the lucky ones and got in at the start. But I have to say when Ares reprints them I will be getting more as I really like the new cards better then the old ones. Best advice is to get the ones you can now and wait on the reprints.
    Welcome aboard Max too.

    Thanks for the replies chaps.

ref Stafford Games - he has sold out now and only restocks on the WW1 models. I have also heard that Roland is selling up and that Stafford Games is up for sale...

Regarding the 109s - Scotia make 1/200 metal models. I was thinking about trying some of them and fitting them out with a Litko flight stand etc. Which manouevre pack would I need for these?

An option in resin, then would be A.I.M. here in the States. http://www.angelfire.com/nj4/armamen.../resin09mm.htm

Welcome to the Aerodrome, Max, from here near Norwich. If you are prepared to paint metal model Messerschmitt bf109E's, have a look at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW2-Fighte...item23443127e4.
The models described there as bf109F's cannot be bf109F's because they have wing cannons. They must be bf109E's. You can obtain the movement decks in a copy of the 'Dawn of War' rules box or the 'Eagles of the Reich' booster card pack. These were Nexus products and are scarce but not as scarce as the Nexus models.

Trumpeter produce 1/200 scale Grumman F4F Wildcat kits. Here is one source. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trumpeter-...item27ef2c29c9
The movement decks for the Grumman F4F may also be found in the 'Dawn of War' box.

However, if you buy something from abroad valued at £15 or more Customs may put a charge on it but what is worse is that the Royal Mail also slap an £8 handling charge on top for collecting the Customs charge.

You can also go to Armaments in Miniature. They got lots of planes in 1/200 scale. Look here. They also sell decals to go with them.
    Hope this helps,

I work in the wargames industry and have some experience of our wonderful postal service and its "handling" charges...

    Woo Hoo!!!!

Just managed to find copies of Eagles of the Reich and Flying legends Squadron expansion packs here: http://www.mmodels.co.uk/index.php

They were the last copies in stock but they will allow me to use the Me109 and Spitfire manouvre decks.

Today is turning out to be a good day!
