The Great Retreat ended at the Marne, British and French troops began a counteroffensive which soon turned into a race northward as Entente and German forces attempted to outflank each other on the northern flank.

The British force deployed in a defensive position along the Mons-Conde Canal with the French 5th Army to their right. The German forces attempt to encircle the much smaller British army…

The situation:
This is a reconnaissance mission; you are to identify troop movements and positions. Each side randomly deploys three trench cards to represent cavalry attempting to lead a flanking maneuver; only one car on each side is actually cavalry the other two are dummy locations.

Objective:
If flying a German aircraft your objective is to find the Entente cavalry unit and exit to your side of the map to report their location. Your observer has a single shot rifle.

If flying an Entente aircraft your objective is to find the German cavalry unit and return to your side of the map to report their location. Your observer has an automatic rifle; if flying a single seat aircraft the weapon may be fixed, but only has half a firing arc depending on what side the weapon is attached.

If you get shot down or are forced to retreat due to excessive damage before completing the mission you lose. Winner is the side that completes their objective first.

Setup:
The map below gives a rough setup. The British and German cavalry cards are located within one ruler of their side with one centered and the other two halfway between the center card and the left-right map edges.

Your respective aircraft start anywhere on your side of the line.
