Guys what is the English word for willingly making a model dirty, scratched and used looking?
Guys what is the English word for willingly making a model dirty, scratched and used looking?
As a verb, to distress. It usually used by peddlers of phony antique furniture. There may be other terms more directly applicable to models.
Jan you are welcome..
I would apply the term 'distressed' to furniture and jeans. For modelling I would use 'weathering'.
My first responsible is 'weathered'.
James, neatly put.
See you on the Dark Side......
Thanks Neil,
Currently working on a heavily modified Diamler - Mercedes D.IIIa engine that I'd heavily weathered from use.
So far she had additional pipe detailing, insulation wrapped on the carburetor, spark plugs and jump leads added and other brackets and fine details added. For the weathering I've used Tamiya and AK interactive but I've had to stop as I'm waiting for AK's fresh oil and engine grime products along with Uschi's metal polishing pigments.

My attempts at weathering are always distressing!

You do indeed have the book on weathering!

I've done cards with shading for the 3d look. Now I'm inspired to apply weathering to my cards! I used to do it to models, especially the tanks. Mud, dust, rust snow, worn paint, exhaust, etc... Hmmm... I've done some exhaust on bombers, come to think of it.

I wish I did have the book, sadly shipping is almost double that of the magazine and 90% of the time you can find everything on the internet these days
So it's agreed then -- we call it "patina". ;)
That's all a load of crud.
