Japan Post is an incredible service! Honestly I've had things get to the UK in 3 days, door to door and the post office is open 25 hours a day! (Ward/hub postal offices).

Also if you miss a delivery, just call them up and they will reschedule same day or next day within the 6 time brackets - I've even had the postie drop something off on his way home!

If only Canada Post had that level of customer service!

The parcel tracking site for both USPS and Canada Post list the package leaving Los Angeles for Canada on 26 Oct. Nothing since has appeared. So, it is in transit, in a mail container at the border, waiting for Customs and Canada Post to accept the mail and log it into their system. From where-ever that is (Vancouver, probably), it will take six to seven days to get to my post office in my town, go out for placing in my local mail box (which it won't fit into without a sledge hammer), back to the post office for next day pick-up. Unless someone has forgotten to log it in, then, who knows where it is and when it will show up.

Yeah, Canada Post is scary... I sent my gal a package on Oct 7, and between Canada Post and Customs I haven't heard anything from her about it arriving yet. Guess that means I better get her Christmas present on the way next week...

    Or maybe hand deliver it?

Polish post is pretty good. A parcel sent on 1st September to Australia was tracked to Gdansk over the full three days it was in Polish territory.
I expect it around Christmas. Which year is another matter.

Yep, customer service in Japan is very good across the board! One of the many things I miss about that place. I've also had some brilliant shipping times (7-8 days) to our pilots down under, but as of late they have been very slow... in the 28-33 day range

The Czech post was always really impressive when I lived there. People from the UK would send me parcels and get the address, postcode, and country wrong, yet the plucky Czech postman still got it to me

The Zeppelin is really great! Looking forward to seeing this one turn up in a few AARs

I just noticed an advisory on the Canada Post site disclaiming delays at the border as the pervue of Canada Customs. Until it gets into Canada Post's hands, they can't track anything. Perhaps customers should be asking for visibility on this, to put some fire under the appropriate posteriors to improve efficiency?

Marvelous James and David!!! Always great to see such art being used.

You guys dont like your post offices?? Never come to Brazil then. Horrible post offices. Too long to deliver, dont work all day, etc. At least the package arrives in good conditions.
    Thanks

LOL, that WOULD be ideal, other than the BIG bite out of budget, and the fact that I'd quickly go hypothermic in a Toronto winter even with her to heat-leech off of... (Yeah, I'm sure being clingy like that would make a REAL good First Impression in MeatSpace. LOL)

    OK,
I take back most of the bad things I said about Canada Post, and all the aspersions to Canada Customs.

There I sat, obliviously working away at a Ju-88 Graphic, and the doorbell rings. It was the Post Mistress, with a meter-long box! Quelle surprise!

It was from Dave [Clipper1801]! So much for tracking update emails! The Post Mistress has been dropping off my parcels to my door, instead of attempting to put them in the super box. There was no way this package would fit, so she walked across the street, and rang the doorbell, rather than take it back to the shipping center! She got a hug!

    Here is the package:

And here is what was in it:

I went back and checked the Canada Post tracking site, and the package arrived in Richmond, BC on the 26th, and transferred it to Canada Customs. Canada Customs held it for two minutes, and gave it back! On it went to Comox, and it would have been here Saturday, if the Post Office worked weekends. No matter, it is here and it can attend BottosCon with me!

    Dave,
I hope all the positive vibes and joy I am feeling can be felt all the way to Arizona, cause it's pretty overwhelming up here. So much for the song, "Rainy days and Mondays always get me down." It is a wet, grey, miserable Monday here on the island, and a very bright, happy spot in the middle of it all. Thank you so very much for your above and beyond efforts.

BottosCon won't know what hit it!

Great news on both sides of the Pacific then chaps.
I must say that of late, the Oberst's mail has been getting here in eight days, with no Customs involvement.
Nothing quite as large as the Zep though.
It is also good news to get a message here from Dave.
May your recovery continue at full speed Clipper.

Try Royal Mail. Ordered 2 valom boxed sets of N17's from a shop in Cornwall. 2 days later ordered discs and bases from Keith. Guess which got here within a week and guess which I'm still waiting for 5 weeks later?
See you on the Dark Side......

May I ask you about this shop in Cornwall Neil, as I have had a problem with a shop there over a ship shipment too.

    Follow-on thanks for Dave [clipper1801]!
While setting up at BottosCon ( Link), amongst all the hard-core board gamers, out came the Zeppelin, and people got up and started taking pictures!

Dave, you were the centerpiece of the Con, once again. The Forrsmann Triplane was a hit last year, but not like the Zeppelin.

All credit to you, and not a few Aerodrome business cards were handed out for people to go check out your work on the Forum.

All the best to you and a speedy recovery, cause I need something even better next year. People are expecting it, now.

    Whoa!
SWMBO suggested an aircraft carrier? Anything that might fit the Battle of Britain?

I was thinking of introducing a WWII scenario. How would I get this together? Suggestions?

I was thinking the same thing, how about not one, but 3 carriers! I have the hiyru and kaga just about finished and a yorktown class carrier underway with a hord of merit and other planes. . . Would that be fun or what? I have been thinking making them a traveling con kit for groups to borrow . . . Either I am crazy or that white rabbit is . . .

Glad to hear you are working towards an outcome Dave.
It is good to hear from you. Hopefully the eyes will settle down as your brain re routes some of the nural network pathways. I was astounded at what happened after my aneurism. My brain has finally decided that the distorted shapes I see are wrong, and is gradually compensating by showing me a sort of interpretation of what it thinks should be there rather than the jumble of shapes.

This is setting up for a very thankful (American- our Canadian was last month) Thanksgiving!

Special thanks that you are coming along, Dave, with our best wishes for a speedy resolution. Those of us who have "been there" have a pretty good idea of what you are going through, and we are all pulling for you. Who else can put the "whiz" in wizardry with projects like the Zeppelins and carriers?

And thanks to Mike and James for getting the hobby out in public view and showing off the fun. And for sharing it with the rest of us. Not to mention strengthening the hope that some day the USPS will disgorge my eagerly awaited meter or so of airships.

As a trans-border family we frequently deal with mailing and shipping to and from Canada. The Free Trade pact has made a big difference in the ease and speed of personal-use shipments. Both Canada and the USA are getting much more revenue from punishing postal rates than they ever would have gotten from collecting duties on small parcels. Just eliminating the book rate was a huge blow for hobbyists (and grandparents). Most of the delays are in the documentation points (export and import). You can beat that to a degree by using First Class International class, which goes up to 4 archaic US pounds northbound, and 2 kilos (about 4.4 lb) southbound. We bite the bullet and drive across for time-sensitive items.

Aircraft Carrier Department. Dave's proposal for shared travel-kits of 1/200 task forces makes great sense. Just my Tehnoart CV8 Hornet dominates an entire hallway of the house, and the prospect of adding an Essex Class or maybe a CVN provokes SWMBO-ly resistance. Merit/Trumpeter reportedly have an Essex Class in the pipeline to follow their Hornet, and an Akagi is rumored down the road. Lindbery has been showing but not releasing a Graf Zeppelin. There are a remarkable number of 1/200 carriers available as card (paper) model kits. For travel purposes laminating the paper sheets onto plastic sheet would increase the durability.

For a fun one evening project, a ping-pong ball makes a great core for a tethered observation balloon if you want to represent the first 1/200 "aircraft carrier". Or you can buy a whole kit online.

The dirigible is great, as soon as it will be possible to get one please let me know how.
Italian post office are great under many points of view: as banks, money transfers, insurance brokers, bookshops, record shops, even game shops, casinos (they sell instant lottery tickets), phone facilities (the mail sevice is also a telephone company), stationery shops and much else.

That, my friend, is what Brown can do for you. (Meaning, UPS and FedEx.) Clipper and I both could tell you a horror story about a plane he bought that got lost ON THE TRUCK FOR FINAL DELIVERY with USPS and didn't turn up for a couple months...
