I am sure you could find a copy of the Starter Set anywhere in the world in an online shop, Doug. Interested in playing? Goooood It is a game worth playing. Pssst!

True Story...... be warned!
Thanks Flash I knew I had miss something in my post but could not think what? Anyway thanks for the link. I am getting the game for my nephews, and was going to save on postage. Andrzej and James your both right, it's like trying to stop smoking when it comes to buying the mins
Doug, I would actually take a look on ebay, one of the guys I play with regular who only got in to the game recently bought his from a player who kit due to lack of fellow players - you can get some REALLY good bargains.
I would also HIGHLY recommend you get two core sets, the reason for this is that as you expand out to more complex style of play the extra ships and dice come in handy and actually cost less buying in the core set, it will also mean you are not constantly passing movement rulers and dice for basic games which makes the game go a lot smoother.
and this is a problem how?
Well, buying more and more minis....
Quick Admin lock Barkmann's account I think my wife has somehow taken control of it!!!!
Nick, you are taliking nonsense. Just think of the economy and how you must do your part.
The dice you get in the second copy are not extra dice but needed ones IMHO. The dice in the core set are actually not enough to play. In a normal game, you actually have to throw and compare more dice than you get in the box. Throwing some dice twice is awkward, since comparisons have to be made.

I finished my X-Wing engagement after the Imperial Aces set.
I need my money for WoG planes.
Voilā le soleil d'Austerlitz!
As far as rulers are concerned, you do not need a second X-Wing set. You can just buy generic Space Fighter Move Templates.
NICE Burn, A.A.!

Andrea if you go by just the cost of 2x Tie and 1x X-Wing blister packs and a dice pack it works out cheaper to buy the extra core set. Actually for the basic game (Same as the Wings of Glory Duel Pack) you do not require additional dice, it's only until you play advance rules where you fin you need the extra dice.
My son says he picked up Rebel Aces in Waterstones bookshop in Canterbury yesterday ! There are a couple of them in Derby so you never know !
I referred to the standard rulebook I found in the starter set. Not the "introductory rules" sheet, just the "Rulebook". Even if you do not use optional nor advanced rules, a X-Wing at short range attacks with 3+1 = 4 dice while a Tie at long range defends at 3+1 = 4 dice. Even the example of page 14 (I refer to Italian edition page numbers), thar refers to basic rules, gives a couple of four dice rolls to the attacker.
I had no doubt, Andrzej
No! No! The problem isn't the minis for Christ sakes, is the money gentleman.
I can see that there are not enough WGF and WGS minis on the market if you still have money to spend on X-Wing
Yes and no, Rafał Not enough WGS iconic minis. That is correct. X-Wing Miniatures started with the iconic ones: X-Wing, Y-Wing, Tie/F, Tie/Adv, Millenium Falcon, Slave, Lambda. Although their attitude toward origins of game mechanics may be debated, the game is really good, fun and plays well IMHO.
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Yes, thanks a lot. But that has been already debated elsewere on this site:

ive played both x-wing and star trek attack wing and while i enjoy both somewhat, neither can hold a candle to wow/wog as far as playability even though both game mechanics are clearly inspired by wow/wog.
sure there are many differences but the heart of both games are the plotting/moving and card damage deck mechanisms so familiar from wow/wog. they simply distilled the individual maneuver decks down to one master "deck" for all ships (to the games detriment in my opinion) relying on variability between ships on adding or subtracting specific maneuvers and replacing the zeros in the damage deck with random dice rolls and adding a dodging step. my 1st impression of x-wing was "wings of glory for star wars" long before i knew of any connection between nexus and FFG.
i think they added ability variations too quickly in both x-wing and staw without playtesting it thoroughly enough as the balancing between sides seems off to me. another factor is smoothness of play. every game ive played in now (12+) with the exception of one has come to a grinding halt while we searched through the rules for one clarification or another. that and the plot every turn slows down fast, smooth gameplay that is wow/wog hallmark.
basically, despite being given the "gift of fire", they messed it up by fiddling with the mechanics trying to "improve" them. dont get me wrong i do get some measure of enjoyment from the games but neither will ever be more than an adjunct to wow/wog for me personally.
Wash you mouth out with soap sir !!!!
X-wing indeed..... lol
I got fed up with waiting an cancelled, I think the basic game is awesome (you get to fly a tie fighter!!!) and would agree with James about getting two core sets. Cinematic is the thing for me, I played someone who had a b-wing armed to the teeth and got butchered, prior to the release of the imperial aces an thought here we go again, see me I enjoyed the basic magic set to. I hope you get what you want out of it, but it does descend into an appendage waving contest. If deciding whether you've won before you get to the table and picked up your manoeuvre dial is your thing, go for it.
Actually I feel the 'arms race' argument is a moot point, I've taken on Advance and Phantom Tie Fighters with pretty basic ships and come away with a victory, I've also out flown armed to the teeth Rebels with a lone Tie fighter which ended up with the opposition winning with only one remaining ship on the board and me with a very happy loss.
The one thing about X-wing is the luck of the draw and synergies that you bring to the table with your ships - the opposition might expect you to bring a three ship build and you field a swarm making 50% of his upgrades useless.
The guys and gals at FFG really do a great job at keeping everything balanced and they are very fast to update the rules if a mistake or loophole is found.
I can see the where some might feel the origins of X-wing comes from Wings of War/Glory but I can see influences from other games as well and with the addition of dices, modifiers and a whole host of other factors the games are very different, so much in fact that I'm happy to collect both without feeling that I'm playing the same game.
Another thing is that it was X-wing that brought me to Wings of Glory, after posting some photos of game my buddy Mark Riveria (who is also a games designer) told me about Wings of Glory and that if I liked X-wing I would love Wings..... he wasn't wrong and I can honestly say that I have probably spent more money on Wings than I have X-wing.
I don't see 'arms race' as an argument, I see it as FFG supplying their audience and their pockets with what they're after.
I just got into the wrong game, well wrong isn't the right description, I love the mythos, the toys, the game mechanics (if I didn't I wouldn't be playing wow), the random element being dice and not damage cards. It's just the wrong game for me.
Hence my two penneth.
