Thread: Magnetic Mounts

    Default Magnetic Mounts

I spent an hour or so last night sticking some small nuts over the pegs on some of my WoG models. I did this because I have bought some magnetic ball post toppers from corseceng.com If you also get some brushed metal posts and clear etched bases from the same source then all you will ever need is half a dozen or so for all your fighters. Their magnets are far more magnetised than the usual ones you can get and it is way easier to stick a small nut over the existing peg than to take the peg off and glue a ball bearing into the fuselage. With a single post you can always pick up your plane by the post with the confidence that it will not come to bits as well. If you play altitude rules they also sell altitude rings that fit neatly around the post base as well.

So long as you have a base card it does not matter that you do not use the official bases for your planes. With 2 seaters and event large bombers you can super glue some of the special nuts available from the same source onto the base and still use the same system too. You can "pose"your planes in any attitude with this set up, minimise what you take with you if playing away and I recommend that you check them out. It might be a tad dearer than the other magnetic system but it is so much stronger.

Please let us see some photographs, if you can manage it, Gary.

I am intrigued by your description of the system Barry.
I would also love to see the magnets in action.

Where is a pimply faced teenager when you need one :-) Anyway, I uploaded the photos to myself from my phone and then saved them to photobucket. Not quite the result I as looking for but if you click on the link you will see the pictures.

    An interesting idea Gary.
I actually now glue the ring magnet from Keith's gimbels to the Aircraft & the ball on a peg.
I like the idea of the stronger magnets especially for the larger aircraft.

    I agree Baz.
It is the large aircraft which are the problem. I looked for those large magnets on E-Bay but they had already been sold.
