Thread: Bombing Ghost Pilot (Revision C)

Default Bombing Ghost Pilot (Revision C)

As some of you may now know, I have recently been having trouble understanding bombing rules.
One thing I am, is persistent... and I need to understand this more before I unleash my Caproni on Baron Rolf.

My latest offering, comes in the form of a Brequet BR.14 (De Greiffer & Marseille). The 'double A' damage brute, is armed & ready to drop some bombs.

The First Drop is at Altitude Level 2. *Straight Drop*

Now, (last card played was a left turn) a straight is placed at the front of the plane base...

Next phase remove card, log victory points, move on to next maneuver. Note how it impacts immediately at Alt.2 when the straight is played. This applies to Alt.2 only, when playing Advanced Rules.

Now for something slightly tougher (although, it's a challenge anyway)

    Altitude 4, *Straight Drop*.

Altitude 4 stall drop was an extra section I wanted to do, but just need to confirm this is ok first. I think you can get the idea from the Alt.2 stall drop.

    Reference for Altitude Bombing:

Alt Level 1 = No bombing permitted.
Alt Level 2 = Bomb drops immediately.
    Alt Level 3 - 4 = 1 extra straight/stall after first stall/straight.

It then increments upwards from there. Please see P.37 RAP Rule book for further info.

    That was Great.
Its perfect, the whole thing makes the bombing rules easy, the rule book was tough to understand at first, after seeing this I reread the book and then the words make sense, I would never had it right without your help, thank you very much, please do some more.

I think you're nearly there Hayden...! (kind version! )
The pics look right but it doesn't quite match Dons diagram in regards bomb declaration card placement (though I think that was an idea he had rather than the rules) and the actual dropping of the bombs.

In the diagram and the FotG rules bombs are dropped after the manoeuvre is played, not in the next manoeuvre phase.
FotG: ...The player executes the manoeuvre card and, before weapon fire is resolved, puts the bombs into play...
That way the bombing cards are cleared away at the end of that manoeuvre phase.
In pic 3, if you replace the phrase "The next movement phase" with "now" and adjust the wording in pic 5 accordingly you should be about spot on... in fact your stall version probably won't need changing unless you want to reinforce the method used.
Other wording I would change is in 'Bombs drop immediately' - Impact would be a better word than drop.

Now a quick question for my education - the altitude rules for bombing quoted from the WoG rules(RAP) have changed from FotG:
.... A bombing can be made at any altitude above level 0....If the plane is at altitude 1 when it drops the bombs, they hit the ground immediately. ... place one counter if the altitude is 2 or 3, two counters if it is 4–6, three counters if it is 7–10, and four counters if it is above altitude 10. ...
Could you please quote the increments for altitude bombing from the new rules? Ta.

Thought as much - they tinkered with altitude & this reflects that change.
You need to adjust wording for pic 5 - as it's not the same phase, it's the next one, and the note about the bombs impacting could go on pic 4.
Same in Altitude 4, *Straight Drop*. pic 4 it's not the same phase, it's the next one.
That should do it, easy huh ?!

    Time to warn the public...

You'll need a different coach for that one !

I don't think I will every try to bomb from above 1 for now, I am not good at estimating the range yet, its hard enough flying over a target with my Gotha, steering that thing can be so hard for a new pilot

Thanks for all the input chaps. Now I can feel more confident in my bombing escapades!

Added a crew to my Caproni, and can't wait to get it on the table.

I have removed all images from my previous posts on the same subject.
Hopefully nobody is put off, or confused by the older posts.

Gave me thoughts of high level bombing and even carpet bombing - dropping pairs of bombs on consecutive moves - to attain a hit...hmmm

Thanks for the tutorial, Hayden! I was just rereading the rules after having played a bomber scenario recently (Capronis), trying to come to terms with the concept as outlined in the rules. We did it sort of correctly. Your pictures and descriptions make things very clear now.

    All the best,
    Matt

I think I am going to fly several solo practice missions to get the hang of estimating on the game surface...

I have yet to try bombing.
I am sure this post will definitely help me comprehend the steps.

    Thank you, Hayden.
