I just stumbled on a great online resource for WW1 trench maps and aerial photographs, co-incidentally from a University not so far away from where I live.
Unfortunately, links to a lot of the maps seem to be broken and even the "high resolution" downloads are not very high resolution, but there is still a lot there that looks really good. The online views are excellent and I was able to print some nice high detail screen captures of a specific map after finding an aerial photo of the same area.
