Thread: A Visit to The Imperial War Museum Duxford U.K.

Default A Visit to The Imperial War Museum Duxford U.K.

Last Wednesday (15th October) I paid a visit to The Imperial War Museum at Duxford near Cambridge in the U.K.. Out of the many aircraft there one that particularly drew my attention was a Catalina, which was being worked on. I had not expected to see one there so far from the U.S.A.. It must have been nearly finished because towards the end of the day fuel was being put into its tanks.

I have several hundred photographs from my visit showing aircraft and exhibits in the Land Warfare Hall. I would like to know (a) whether members would be interested in seeing them and (b) whether uploading them onto the site is likely to cause problems.

It would be great to see them Dave. You could make an album of them and post a link.

Depends on how much space you have available Dave, or you could put them on Flickr and post a link but I'm sure they will be well received - been a few years since I visited there myself.

It is a great looking plane. This year I was able to see one fly at the MAM in Va. Beach.

IWM in Duxford is the one on my list after IWM in London and Hendon Museum that I have already been to. Great place. Good they found the way and sources to restore that beautiful plane.
I would love to see your photos David. May I suggest a digital cloud to upload them (not directly to this site then) and sending us a link to view them?
I use Dropbox and Cubby - they offer some free space enough to upload them with ease.

    Thumbs up

Great pics of the Cat which is one of my favourite WW2 aircraft.
I wonder why the white colour?
WW2 Cats were usually Blue/Grey or then the famous "Black Cats.

After a quick look around, I'm guessing post war colors. Atlantic colors were shades of white and light grey, though.

Great images! I would love to see more of them. The Catalina, as said before, is one of my favorites planes of WWII. See images of them is always a pleasure.
    Thanks

Blue grey in the Pacific maybe Baz - Around the UK they could be white with cammo top surfaces:

    Much like the Sunderland was:

Always good to see one whatever colour it's done in !

I have finally finished uploading all the aircraft photographs from my Duxford visit. They may be found in an album on my 'My Profile' page. I have not uploaded the photographs from the 'Land Warfare' hall because I did not think them relevent to this site.
