After Action Report for World at War Convention in Perrysburg Ohio on Nov. 1st.
There was at least 20 different games at the World at War Con.
The advertised Bolt Action and Wings of War games were not played.
However, similar games (Flames of War and Sails of Glory) were played.
The convention could have been improved by signup sheets for the games.
As it was, the HMGSGL gamers seemed to have first pick of the games.
I played in Pickett's Charge run by NOWS member, Jim Kopchak and Sails of Glory run by Dave Elmore.
I was on the winning Union side in Pickett's charge because I was in a good defensive position and my opponent committed his forces piecemeal which allowed me to destroy the closest units before the rest of his units were in range.
There were two French frigates vs. two British frigates in the Sails of Glory game.
I had a French frigate and this was the second time that I have played Sails of Glory.
The other French captain turned into the wind, lost momentum and was left behind.
The two British frigates boxed my ship in and killed all of my crew by musket fire from the shrouds and crows nest.
The tables around the gaming area had various gaming flea market items for sale.
I use 1/72 scale plastic figures for my Battle Ground, WW II games.
I bought a box of WW II 1/72 scale plastic figures at the flea market for $10.
There were over 300 figures in the box so my cost was about 3 cents per figure.
Retail cost on these figures would be about 30 cents per figure so I got them at 10% of retail cost.
All in all, it was very good for a small convention and an enjoyable way to spend a Saturday.
