Hi Chaps, following intense negotiation with SWMBO I should get there for 0830.
I will have Hannah and Ruth with me, maybe Amy too.
I am doing a Rhubarb mission, Robs doing Malta, 3rd is up for suggestions, but we have BoB dogfighting or Mosquitos v Gestapo as possibles
Whoever gets there first, make sure we have enough chairs!

Hello again to everyone my wife and I met playing WW2 Wings of Glory at Hammerhead. Just want to say a MASSIVE thank you for the introduction to the game and for looking after both of us during the Battle of Britain dogfight scenario.

Also very pleased to let you know how we came away from Hammerhead with a Wings of Glory starter pack and four aircraft miniatures in order to get us started off into playing at home: Very much looking forward to learning more as time progresses and hopefully if the opportunity ever arises to contributing something / helping out in the future in return for what was experienced today. Board gaming sure beats absolutely loads out of just playing PC games all the time!

It's the Twenty-First Century software on my new replacement laptop that I'm struggling with - it doesn't run the same photo programs as my old one did!

It was a grand day out.
Met new friends, Barney and his Lady, and renewed acquaintance with an old friend Nick.
When I have time to get my pictures downloaded and captioned I will also post my impressions of a day doing WW2. My thanks go to John Biggles and family for taking most of the strain, Hawkhurst and Deadly M for support when things were looking black, and Hedeby for loaning me his playing cloth again. He knows what I mean.
I also await the explaination of strange mobile message I recieved from his Co Skafloc mid afternoon telling me that said Flight Commander was again Barred.
Incidentally, although Marion did not reproduce the form that she showed in the last two shows, Andy won the best pilot award for shooting down five aircraft including an HE 111, which he took out almost unaided. What made this so extra ordinary was that he only played in two games.
More snippets of gossip to follow tomorrow together with some photos of the WW2 games.
    Rob.

Getting myself barred again was apparently due to me finding a still sealed Galland Me-109 in the bring and buy for a FIVER !!!
Guilty as charged -I'm not even sorry, lol

Right... photos and AAR on the way.

Great venue (if a trifle chilly on the day), loads of space which meant we were able to have three large tables

Gotta love these - just a few quid off E-bay - think moving forward they should be compulsory for all Central Powers pilots (except those in balloons or zeppelins, where I see a potential health and safety issue)

Right then... first up on the WW1 table, we had a simple recon mission. Two Harry Tate's (that's RE-8s for those not familiar with the rhyming slang) off to photograph some key Hun positions, escorted by 4 sleek fast SE5a's. Mission criteria, get the photos's and get the recon planes back to base. Trying to stop them were five beautifully painted (great job Tim) Fokker D VIIs (including a slightly pink one that brought back certain nightmares from Doncaster last year... small girl, pink plane, lots of wrecked RFC scouts... shudder)

The RE-8 is bit like a Bristol, except its slower and has less guns, less maneuverability, less hits, can't Immelman but does have a camera. It is at this point I overheard Tim explaining that the SE5a's were all gimbal mounted, awesome I thought. Imagine my disappointment when I realised this had magnetic stand connotations and did not refer to any funky up-gunning.

The brief was clear - scout escorts were to stick close to the spotters and provide cover, not swan off for a dogfight with the Hun leaving the creaky old spotters to their fate as usually happens. It was quite a cloudy day, which was to prove telling as the mission unfolded.

One the far side of the combat area all hell was breaking loose, with Fokker's closing from all sides but over here all was quiet and not a shot had been fired, had we caught Fritz with his trousers down?

It wasn't long before a sinister pink hued plane roared into view... quick find more clouds. However the escort plane is doing it's job intercepting the unsuspecting Fokker (yes I appreciate that is no way to describe a young lady)
    and battle is joined....

A quick Immelmann and the Hun is in trouble, if only I can make that next cloud bank.

The SE5a drives the Hun away from the RE-8 and it now has a clear (if slow) run to it's target

Banking hard the escort accelerates to catch up it's spotter, no harm done thus far and looking good for the RFC.

Target sighted and just as we are about to take the photo that damn Fokker arrives, riddles the RE-8 and starts a fire (what do you mean I can't take photo's whilst on fire and being shot at, you will be telling me my gunner is hit and I can't fire back (or up, or down) (Tim understands that one !)

    Name: IMG_1204.jpg
Views: 231
Size: 106.2 KB

A quick trip back in to the clouds to shake off the pursuing Fokker which due to a stroke of luck cannot turn right to follow, its back on target and 'Click' photo grabbed, now all we have to do is put the bloody fire out and get home - hmm no straights and a slow plane, this could be dicey)

    Name: IMG_1205.jpg
Views: 235
Size: 166.1 KB

Elsewhere the Fokker's continue to swarm and the RFC have lost a couple of planes allowing a pair to peel off and search for the RE-8s.

Flushed with the successful photo stage and determined to avenge the losses at Doncaster caused by Amy and her Pink (yes I know it should be Purple Tim) Fokker, Hedeby screams in on the now damaged Fokker... ha ha take that, I am not going to get shot out of the sky by the same young lady again, NOT this time, revenge is mine and it is sweet !!!!

WHAT !!!!! Boom card on first shot, you have got to be kidding me .... bugger !!

Dive out the other side of the cloud and safety is in sight. Despite the loss of three of the four scouts, both RE8-s make it back with their precious photo's intact.
Great game, well fought, lots of fun.. Thank you Tim (I'm off to have a look at the bring and buy - you never know what you might find)

As I was playing at sailors yesterday, I didn't get many pics from the two other tables.
However, the venue was good, spacious for a change, just like Derby, although a tad chilly to start off.
A few traders, including Red Eagle, so got my mits on another HP 0/400 Yes Ill do the KS for Ares but I would like to play this year not next with a HP bombing mission.
Flying Helmut et al and John biggles and Kytes tables seemed quite busy all day. For me less so.
Quite a few wanted to talk SGN but not so many to play.
Anyway still enjoyed it and here are the pics I did take.

    WW2
The Train, I did ask about 3d but was told it was for ease of flying over

    Here come the Westlands Huzzah

Tim's prize winning WW1 table, clouds and buildings , was a well deserved win

Just to put the icing on the day, Flying Helmut and the WW! table picked up the Prize for Best Constructed Participation Game, this was thanks to the great 3d effect his building and the clouds gave the table.
Well deserved Tim, congrats to all the WW1 pilots who assisted.
WE will see if we get asked back next year
