Thread: Rules & Accessories...

    Default Rules & Accessories...

The past 2 shows I have attended, people have been VERY interested in our exploits in Aerial Combat.

The most common problem we have, is directing people towards a WGF Rules & Accessories set.
Everywhere is out of stock, and although planes are nice... for new folks the options are limited to Duel Packs. I was wandering if anyone knew of plans to reprint the rules?

This needs to happen, for longevity of new interest.

    Post your thoughts...

I'll let you in on a secret... FFG still has all of their rules releases online:
    http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_nrep.asp?eidm=19

I would say that the Burning Drachens and Flight of Giants combination is the most complete rule set available, but if you insist on a version of miniatures rules, it's also there.

I believe the only substantive difference in the new rule set is the "no straights on fire" rule that a lot of people hate, but I could be forgetting something.

Doesn't Ares have the rules book available for download on their site?

The tokens/decks are a problem, even if the rules are present online.
    Also the consoles etc.

The decks are a problem, particularly the B damage deck. The tokens are mostly superfluous, and the consoles frankly suck. Particularly when compared to the old ones. Also, both are available in the Duel Packs. While supplies last, you can get a B damage deck, tokens, and good consoles here:

According to Ares's web site, they have just recently reprinted and restocked the RAP. But IMHO they need to update the rulebook anyway, into a single comprehensive document with all of the bomber-specific info they've been adding in pamphlets in the planes, rather than reprinting the Flight of Giants info...

Well its really out of stock everywhere. But players could "make" their own material based kn images in the net. Very unpratical for new players, but just an idea. For example, i have a small B damage Deck, so i made a copy of it, like if I had 2 RDS. Rules are available in files here, in BGG, etc.
PS: I think you've created another thread like this one.
    Thanks

Several members have published their own console designs on this site and I believe the files section contains a breakdown of the damage decks so someone might temporarily be able to construct a substitute for a B deck.

totally agree with Hayden here, the availability of the R&A pack has been the most asked question at the last four shows we attended. Not only from new players but people who had bought the Duel pack and now wanted to expand.
Rules not the main issue, lack of Damage decks is the main issue, plus the counters.
At Derby last week, even though not many there this year, we could have sold at least a dozen sets going by the number of questions about it, on just the Saturday.

I've been after the rules and accessories for a little while now,I have it on order now at my local store, apparently ares website says that it's being re printed but that was September and of course we are now in October .I want it for the damage decks and tokens,I have however made a B damage deck from the files on this website so I can use my two seaters.
It's great to see it so popular though.

It makes you wonder why they don't sell damage decks by themselves, either as individual packs in cases like a deck of playing cards, or all four types batched together in a kit. The community-made alternatives are very good, but I don't have a printer or good card (plus my hand-eye coordination would leave the cards a complete mess.)

I had forgotten about the damage decks. Tokens too, but the decks are more important.

Good to hear a reprint is on it's way. WoG WGF & WGS receives such positive reception at events, and people generally love the game due to it's ease of demonstration.

Having someone gunning another player down in no time at all, leaves the 'frag-hungry' wargamers quite satisfied.

It would be good to carry some bits to sell, but a good idea to tie ourselves to a trade stand as not to upset anybody.
Aerodrome Accessories representation could be another way forward.

It has always been the way though - if it's not the rule set it's the aircraft - was Fokker D.VII, now it's SE5a - and so the wheel rolls on.

Effectively, the Rules and Accessories Pack IS selling the damae decks by themselves; they are undeniably the most valuable materials in the box.

But I am surprised no one has created a file for use on a print on demand site, like printerstudio.com. So far as I know, the only think Ares could take excepion to is the use of the name "Wings of Glory" and the specific special damage icons. Create a unique but identifiable set of icons, and you're in business. Heck, you may even be able to get away with the old Wings of War icons...

Nah I know, but if, say, I could buy an extra A deck on its own, to replace a damaged set or make a double-deck for large games, I think they'd be really successful. Lower costs of production and shipping (a deck of cards is a lot smaller than the Rules and Accessories pack after all) mean it could be pretty profitable.

I took two spare RAP sets to Derby, and sold them both in less than an hour!
Only wish I had had more..............

Does anybody have any idea when these are actually going to be available again in uk shops?

I think my local games shops still had a WW1 RAP last time I visited it.

Hi just bought the Rules and Accessories from the Aerodome Store (Above Link) 10 days shipped to my door (Small town Canada- no Duties, no customs wait! Awesome!!) , purchased 4 planes from my LGS. I have two boys 6 and 9 and they absolutely love the game. Couldn't find the Rules & Accessories anywhere else though... as a new player glad I got them! Don't know how many they have left... but the packaged contained a 2014 Ares Catalogue.

This has always been the thing that worried me most about the marketing of both Nexus and Ares, and glory only knows there have been others.
The game is driven by the availability of the R&A box. The models are just eye candy without the playing mechanisms. There should be a rolling programme of reprinting both WW1 and 2 R&A.

You have to take certain things on faith, which is a big gamble. I bought a DH2 a while back (and my brother's bought me a Caproni for my upcoming birthday) on the basis that I'll be able to get a copy of the RAP easily enough. Hopefully it won't be too big a problem, but you never know.

I can speak up for Printer Studio now. I've just had some custom cards printed by them, and the quality is on par with originals. One very tiny issue, for some reason their mini-european cards are about half a mm shorter than the originals, but for me that isn't an issue as I've found original cards cut and printed slightly differently too.

That is an interesting point Foz, because I print a lot of my own Pilot cards, and just occasionally the printer turns one out slightly larger than size for no apparent reason.

With professional printers it's just down to paper shift in the printer or cutter. That's why professional places require a bleed on the artwork to allow for these minor shifts. In the case with Printer Studio, they actually advertise their cards that little bit shorter. Most likely down to the imperial to metric conversion.

Must agree, I hated the consoles.. both new and original. Tossed all of them into recycling years ago.

You can find these on Ebay anf amazon if you look but often for silly money. The WW2 set seems to be the most scarce. Ludibay often seems to come up with stock too.
