Thread: DONCASTER 2015

  1. #1

    Default DONCASTER 2015

Following on from the resounding success of our first national/international get together, the general consensus of opinion is that we should do it again. The venue seemed popular (not just with those within walking distance) and the timing seemed about right. All that being said I have checked the dates of next year's St. Leger festival (guaranteed no hotel rooms in entire area) and the same weekend looks a good bet... so if people are in agreement we could go for 19th and 20th of September 2015. It was also thought that some sort of 'Regimental Dinner' would be a nice addition for the Saturday night. Let me know your thoughts - especially around the dates and I will make the necessary arrangements at the venue.

Looking forward to hearing from you - can we beat 5 countries present next year? would be good if we could.

Maybe you UK blokes could organize a reverse lend-lease for some poor pilot on this side of the pond?

The only problem with that idea Karl, is that it may mean a watering down of the contributions for Origins if our chaps were contributing to and touting for support of our Doncaster event.
I would not wish to step on the Oberst's and the rest of your toes over the pond.

Never let it be said that I can't recognize the downside of a good idea.
More port then (the virtual stuff is cheap enough)

I shall liaise my socks off then - starting with securing the venue - should be able to sort out this coming weekend.

Going to ask for the third room (the one where I got told off for pinching the table from) as well this time - am going to work on anywhere between 40-50 pilots... we'll see how it goes, I shall start a list of those interested/possibles/probables and definites

I have a provisional booking in place for the same weekend next year (2015). There may well be an increase in price (but seeing as we only paid a few quid this year that seems fine) because of numbers, late finishes and the fact we get free entry to the museum etc. but I will sort that out over the coming few days. I have also inquired about the possibility of having the third large room within the building should numbers warrant it. Will keep you chaps posted

No, no, no Rob you did just the best! I can speak for myself I will attend this perfect event again - hopefully with some others. I can only beg for some help in getting to the place, but that is a question we will discuss later on
My dream is to get there with Sven and our Czech friends this time...I WILL PRESSSSSSS ON THEM....

Very kind of you to say so Andy.
I'm sure we can work out some transport to the event nearer the time. We will have to look into room bookings as well once the date is finally confirmed.

Are we opening up to the public? We had a few drop in visitors so our closed event wasn't all that closed. Neil

I would rather it was just us to be honest - but happy to take a steer from everyone else

  30. #30

I say make it open to the public. Footfall in the museum on the day was so low that it'll hardly make any difference I think. Plus most of them will just look in, point at the weirdos playing with toy aeroplanes and move on. But a few will linger and enjoy it, and a few might even want to give it a go.

  31. #31

    Default

Good point and we get the rooms for less if the public still have access to the rest of the block - I don't recall the general public getting in the way at all, but I was too busy enjoying myself I probably wouldn't have noticed if the place had caught fire....

  32. #32

    Default

    I'm happy either way.
As Neil says a few were about, and I had to chat to them to explain the situation anyway. Another few won't spoil the event in my opinion, but I will let you chaps have the vote as usual.
    Rob.

I would open the events to the public, but only if the people have come early enough to join the scenarios we intend to play.
However, the UK Wing members should have the casting vote in the matter.

OK chaps, the booking is CONFIRMED for the 19th and 20th of September. I have secured us the two room we had this year, plus the third room further back (the one with the train sets etc in it) so we can certainly expand operations. There will be a price increase to Ł200 for the weekend, but even if we only had 20 people its still only a tenner a head, I reckon we could comfortably have up to 40 people which would mean only a fiver. As this year, no deposit etc needed we will pay on the day. So now we have a base, letting the planning and scheming begin...

I hope to have a Lancaster by then - assuming I can get one from a show somewhere
