Seriously tempted by that - torn between naval Camels and maybe a new set of fancy Fokkers.... Pity there are no Udet D.VIIs knocking around in Blighty at the moment

Yes, it's a shame that the mini supply out there is so low for a big contest like this.

It's not too bad really - I've still got 31 of the 36 models for sale, but of course the ones unavailable just happen to be some of the stronger candidates for modding, especially Goering (obviously a clean slate to work on) Udet (Jasta 18 springs to mind) and Lufbery / Thenault (needed for, ooh, pretty much any RFC Nieuport....)

Still plenty to work with though - Schafer can still be had for the D.VII nuts (and is the one with full wing lozenge....) while there a few things you can do with the Camel, and any number of Dr.I and Albatros options....

I f only the prizes were WWI models!
    I might have been interested.

That thought did cross my mind too, but I guess there's someone out there who'll swap in the unlikely event....

Just got back from Partizan wargames show at Newark. There I picked up an exclusive Camel. It is Barkers, but without the rings round the tail. Must have slipped through the quality control net, but ideal for conversion!

    Default Interesting, but....

I feel that unfortunately the opportunity for full-on kit-bashing is somewhat limited given the aircraft available in the series and the cost of the things, and assuming you are not going the 'Ucronic' route whatever that is.

Yes - repaints fine, but conversion scope is very limited - switching Brits to Comic configurations is the only thing that really springs to mind, although I do find myself looking at the DH4 floatplane too....

If you are not too fussy about dimensions and are handy with the styrene sheet, you could knock up a Fokker D.VI from a Triplane, or an Albatros W4 from a D.III (remove fuselage from everything else, discard everything else )

You'd definitely need to be rather skilled / ambitious, not to mention willing to trash a ten quid model for, in some cases, a single part.... I think I'll stick to the repaints....

How about turning a Camel into a Sopwith Baby? I know it is Ł10 but think of the reward, plus the Kudos it would bring to both you and the drome if you won it.

I Gnu you were going to say that. Indeed that remark not worthy but no need to get Snarky about it. You'll just have to Swallow it or this could Dragon and on and on....

I can't believe I did that off the top of my head

Well Done Sir - Come On Steve!!

Your last remark nailed it for me.... Kytey's little pointy stick! Its purpose is so obvious, I wonder why I never thought of it before!! It is, of course, a hat pin, to keep his bonnet on when flying. He only has two hands, and needs both for Steering and operating the machine guns, not to mention unwrapping his Penguins, so he has none to spare to hold his hat on.

I'm glad to see that they didn't amputate your sense of humour whilst you were in hospital John. This evenings entertainment has indeed been down to our usual standard my R.F.C. chums.
Now Dom seems to have got infected too. Try turning all this talent to the British forum and help me get that winging.

So this is only repaints, not kits we have built? Do you think I could sneek in My Fokker D-VI and say it was converted from a triplane and D-VII.

Fantastic; thanks for sharing, I've been looking forward to seeing these. The silver in the squadron category looks a little ropey to me but there are some great entries; that super-detailed RE8 is absolutely stunning....

Well done Dom. A very well deserved prize for that Ropey squadron. The drinks are on me as usual. A great honour for the British Wing to have such a talented young man in its ranks.

Thanks gents - I did confess up front that I painted those up a while back.... . To be honest I'd have liked to have entered either Jasta 18 or 40, but both are stalled until we get a D.VII reprint as my collection's down to 4 Schafers and a single forlorn looking Udet.... At least it saved me from an embarrassing WoW equivalent of turning up in the same outfit given the very nice J40 that got third....

Pleased as I am though, the entries in the individual aircraft category blew me away - more on a par with pflanzer's efforts on the forum here than mine, ie. Staggeringly good rather than tidily done. The winning RE8 is a proper OMG job, and second and third are similarly excellent; looking at both the number of entries and the photos of the winners, the individual category was *very* hotly contested compared to the squadron one - I guess we megalomaniacs are a minority after all....

    Dom.

PS -Rob, I've been called many things, but "young" is just silly....

Congrats Dom, well done! ... and hey I think I recognize that yellow D VII. Does that look familiar to anyone in Florida?

I also agree that the first prize historical model is fantastic. I mean wow he even put the wires on it. Just amazing.
