Thread: Over the Channel - Wings comes to Basingstoke

Default Over the Channel - Wings comes to Basingstoke

Here are some of the highlights from my attempt to reintroduce a long term absentee and a couple of newbies to WGF.

The scenarios took place over water, because only after making the three hour drive from Cheshire to Hampshire did I realise that, while I had brought every aeroplane, balloon and cute little add-on accessory that I own, I'd left the gaming mats in the office at home.

Unphased by this minor setback, we rolled out a plain blue cloth and proceed to start a quick Early War duel, at a fixed altitude [to get everyone up to speed] and no collisions [because anything else with newbies and no altitude just becomes stock car racing]

An early head-on pass went badly for the Brits.

And it wasn't long before the Bosch forced one plucky lad taking a swim, and the other soon followed, with a toast to Kaiser Bill.
Although everyone was cheered by Europe's progress in the Ryder Cup [see background]

Buoyed up by the ease of playing the game, and some cases a life jacket, we progressed to a game with the more rules, and more manoeuvrable aircraft.
Some early jockeying for position and altitude followed.

A good time had by all, with a repeat performance with more players, and more toys, arranged for later in October.

Great games you had out there Fox!!
Just a quick question: I was trying to get some more models but cant decide: 1 Sopwith Triplane and 1 Siemens Schuckert or 1 DH4 and 1 Roland C.II?
    Thanks

Depend on preferences, as usual. But IMHO Sopwith Triplane is not a match for Siemens Schuckert. I'd rather clash it with Albartoss II/III. For DH4 a perfect opponent is Halberstadt (if you want equal dogfighting). Roland is different kind of plane.

A very succint and witty commentary there Fox old chap.
I enjoyed it almost as much as the result of the Ryder Cup.

I'll second that! It was as fun to be the reader for me as I'm sure it was to be the player for you.
