super job WingCo - what did you use for the rigging?
Was away for a few days---free room in Atlantic City/Casino and being with my sister----. I thank you for your opinion on the paint job. Have to get my Polish decals for the Polish planes. Another it my planes so here they are. Thanks guys.
October got off to a bit of a slow start in the way of painting. I was privileged to be able to baby-sit three of my grand children while one of my sons and his wife were at the hospital welcoming their 4th child, Thomas Xavier. Now I've a total of nine grand children!
On to painting. This month I'm working on:
four - 1/144 scale BP Defiants, shapeways, No. 264 squadron
six - 1/144 scale Beauforts, Peters Planes, No. 217 squadron
six -1/200 scale P-38s (early Pacific) AIM
eight - 1/200 Corsairs (four birdcage and four regular)
two - 1/200 Polikarpov R-5s, shapeways
a gaggle of I-15s, I-15 Bis, I-153s, and I-16s
one - 1/48 OV-10D Bronco, Testors, USN Black Ponies
and converting a Minicraft 1/48 scale Cherokee 140 to a Cherokee 180 (birthday gift for my dad, the finished model will be of his Cherokee 180).
Any pictures Kevin?
Rob.

Well everythings on hold. Builder sacked so I suppose the kitchen is what's on the workbench...literally!
See you on the Dark Side......
Well I've got four Pfalz D.XII's, a Fokker D.VII, Lt Werner Voß's Fokker Dr.I and finally another Dr.I as a fictitious wingman for Werner, but my current project list might be put on hold whilst we're sorting out our new home, plus there's our first baby on it's way, so I'll try and sneak some painting in between all of the job's that my swmbo's has got lined up for me
Congrats on the new pilot Mark - new home, new baby is what they say and that's what happened to me ! I haven't moved house since '92 !!
Sapiens qui vigilat... "He is wise who watches"
Rob, here's the picture of my desk. Beauforts and Defiants have decals and I'm doing a check on them to make sure the decals set correctly. Bronco and P-38s will likely get some decals today. Soviet aircraft are getting some camo pattern work and I just finished painting the canopies on the Corsairs. The Cherokee 180 is off screen as is Thomas. Kev
Kevin, you play 1/144 and 1/200 in WW2? Can you elaborate a little more about that? Thanks.
Joaquim, let me confuse the subject a little more I actually enjoy building and painting models and minis more than playing the games. I have hundreds of minis and models ranging from 1/600 to 1/4 scale (dinosaurs, monsters, zombies, vikings, super heroes, tanks, spaceships, and of course airplanes) that I want to build and paint just for the sake of building and painting them. I may have one or two figures from the US Civil War and the Napoleonic era but for some reason I really don't care to paint those genres.
I play WWI WoG but with cards, at home, on occasion.
I play Check Your 6! rules, Spanish Civil War through the Cold War, at the houses of friends and at conventions. I paint a lot of the minis for these games and they range in scale from 1/300 to 1/100. Friends and I will often get together to come up with unique scenarios, for unique aircraft (I end up having a reason and forcing function to paint interesting aircraft).
I also play Aerodrome 2.0 and 3.0 rules, but only at conventions. Again, I paint the models for the games; 1/144 for Aerodrome 2.0 and 1/200 for Aerodrome 3.0.
Some of the 1/144 scale and 1/100 scale airplane minis are for a friend who is very much into the Flames of War games. The 1/48 scale Bronco will join a 1/48 A1-H Skyraider and two UH1-C Hogs for a 28mm Vietnam based game.
I also paint display models for myself and others. I'm pretty sure that I painted most of the minis pictured for the AIM website and I have other pictures on the Reviresco and Old Glory UK sites. Kevin
Kevin, it wasn't confusing, I was enlighten by it. Thanks for sharing and post more photos. They're most welcome.
As always, a pleasure and privilege to share this site with people like you.

Good catch though Mike.
We seem to have had a good week for picking up much needed aircraft.

You could check with Armaments in Miniature. There are several sets of 1/200 decals for Hurricanes. They've also got the "early" annotation and one set is also identified with No. 1. link below

Another option is Scale Specialties. Their cat no. 160AC-004 includes code letters. There are four Ys and four Os. On other sheets they have tail flashes and roundels. The decals are 1/160th scale. The letters are a tad over 3mm tall. link below

Thanks, Kevin.
The prices are much better, but the web cataloges are not very good. There were 2 "No. 1 Squadron" s involved in the Battle of Britain. One RAF and one RCAF. The decal sheet listing No. 1 Squadron (no picture that I could find) is probably RAF.
The guide I found today suggested that 200 scale decal letters should be 3.5-4 mm. So perhaps usable? Roundels should be approximately 4.4 mm. Do you know how big these are?

Well I've got my 3D map to finish. I always find the last 10% of any project seems to require ten times more effort to finish off. The poor thing has been sitting untouched for over a month. I've been slack with hobby stuff this month. We've had a bugger of a month as our youngest cats front left leg was mauled by next doors psycho dog and we have had the possible amputation of the leg hanging over us until today. It seems the nerves in the paw are starting to respond again as inflammation is receding so all is looking good for the cats future mobility.
The section on the left side needs its hedgerows completed and the village base below needs painting. I also have a half dozen, farm buildings bases to make and paint and its done.
As much as I want to get the map finished, I guess working under stress will not really produce the effect I wish to acheive.

I've been having some fun creating some bits and pieces for a couple of games this weekend.
Inspired by John Buchan's and Erskine Childers' Edwardian espionage novels, there will be a spy related theme to our adventures.
There will be intercepted wireless messages, secret dossiers and telegrams containing hurried orders to scramble.
Unfortunately, my Litko flak counters have been delayed, and will not be here in time.
So, either foolishly, or excitingly, or both, I am going to attempt to make my own.
I've rush ordered some self-contained LED lights, and I'm busy trying to dye some sheeps wool as we speak.
Wish me luck with making illuminated flak explosions.
As a bit of surprise we have this specialist intelligence boat, disguised as fishing vessel.
I'm going to allow it to make one manoeuvre from the XD deck at the start of each turn in an attempt to make it's escape.
That's pretty fast for any ship in 1917, but it's still going to need good cover from his buddies not to be a sitting duck.
Sounds like great fun Fox.
I hope there will be pictures and a story to go along with it after the event.
Rob.

Mike, the roundels on the pictured Hurricane are from one or more of the following sheets. I know the lettering is Scale Specialties. I've annotated the size, in mm, of the roundels and flashes. Sheets pictured are: Scale Specialties 160AC-003 (one sheet per pack), I-94 Enterprises BR-107 (two sheets per pack), and I-94 Enterprises BR-121 (two sheets per pack).
I noticed that the color blue came out differently in the scans. On the decals the blues on the upper surface Type B roundels look pretty much the same across the sheets. Kevin
It's going to be just a super fantastic day! ...title should be Hurricane not Hirricane

As a N-Scale modeler i do appreciate the effort expanded to make that board! I build TTrak modules that are 12 x 12 one at a time. We lost our senior cat two weeks ago, at the ripe old age of 17. My hobbies have taken a back seat also.

So far on the decal front:
These are precisely matched to the WW25b model for the camouflage, and if the decal sheet accepts the ink at the same rate as the photo paper, they will be perfect for size and colour (Ink saturation at 80% to reduce the intensity and give a bit of sun-fade). The 2, 3, and 5 above are part of my decal attempts for the renumber of my JG53 Bf-109s. Doing it all together.
As best as I can tell, there were only upper and fuselage roundels, and no fuselage bands until after October 1940, so this should do the trick.
No shipping or postage.
PS: I did try to download the RAF Letter font from a website, but either it was corrupted or my machine wasn't playing nice with it. These are the best match with the fonts I have.

This could be a most useful addition to our decals collection Mike.
I can see it saving hours of repainting and matching up colours thanks.

Ahhh... the Bronco... love that one.
As for me... the partially painted pile continues to grow. But I should be done by the December deadline.
These are just waiting for a finishing layer of clear.
Wow John are they 15mm scale Federation Away Team figures? Who makes them, they look pretty good? What game system are you using them for? I have been putting together some Khurasan 15mm not Aliens Colonial Marines figures for some solo gaming ideas, but Star Trek would work really well in solo gaming.

Hi Rich
I am sorry to read about the loss of your cat. I think cats are just the best companion animals and to have an animal for 17 years and then having it move on to the great scratching pole in the sky is just like losing a best friend. My deepest condolences.
BTW I have been reading your numerous posts over the years and I have to say I love what you do for the hobby. Great work mate.
Trev
Yes, 15mm Trek lookalikes. I'm going to run FASA Trek in December, so I needed some minis to go along with it. You can find them at:

Thank you. I blend my two major hobbies each year at the Trains Planes and Santa show. Just five weeks until Thanksgiving and T,P&S 2014. I am building three new modules to expand my layout. My major work this month and next!
The old guys mother was a feral. It took two years and a lot of left over chicken to allow me to pet her. She carried in three kittens about this time of year. The friendliest one we adopted. We trapped his sister who was neutered and released. Their brother was the neighborhood stud for six years. An out break of Feline Leukemia wiped out the feral s in 2000-2001.
All of our cats were kittens of local feral cats. We trap, neuter release each year, an endless job.
Rich
Wow. I actually got something onto the workbench and completed it in a month! I have projects I started two years ago that aren't done yet. What up with dat?
I ordered the planes, got them through the post, did up cards, attempted to do up decals (what a Royal PITA that was, again!) and prep the minis. I still got something produced, and I have four days left!
Hurries of No.1 RCAF are here: Official Hawker Hurricane Painting Thread
The second Rotte of JG 53 is here: Official Messerschmitt Bf-109 Painting Thread
Not the perfect result out of the decals I wanted, but not as much painting as there could have been. So touch-ups are necessary, but usable results if I want to try a scenario at BottosCon.
