Default Wings of War Gaming - Greater Dayton

For those interested we (The Wright Flight) will game at The Hobby Shop in Miamisburg (near Dayton Mall) this Saturday starting at 10:30. If you cannot make it that early, stop by before 2 as I am sure we will still be gaming throughout the afternoon. The shop is located in the Corner's at the Mall Shopping Center near the Dayton Mall at the corner of State Route 741 and State Route 725.

We should have plenty of planes to use so no need to bring any unless you feel the need.

Had a great time flying (and NOT getting shot down!!) with you guys today - wish I could have stayed longer...but there will be another time! Great to reconnect with good folks from way-back-when. Maybe I'll have the two DVIIs repainted when we next see one another...

    Thanks again, Wright Flight!

Four games today, a new record. And a good mix of planes were used, from the older N.17s and Albatros D.IIs to Snipes and Fokker D.7s. Pictures are here:

Had a great day of gaming yesterday. Enjoyed seeing you again after all these years, Matt! Thanks for posting your photos, Darryl.

Our second game (three players) featured a Gotha on a bombing mission, versus the two Belgian fighters (Coppens and Olieslager). In the game, the Gotha lined up its target but dropped its bomb load a bit short, missing the target. The Gotha turned for home and made it safely off the board with very little damage. In fact, all three aircraft survived with almost no damage. At the time, it seemed like a rather anti-climactic game. In retrospect, however, it was probably a very realistic result. I imagine the majority of WWI aerial encounters ended indecisively.

Good point, Smitch! I was re-reading the Over the Front article on Olieslager last night and he flew something like 500 sorties, had seven confirmed kills, and maybe like another 20 unconfirmed. That means a lot of missions with little to no enemy contact.

I'm sure that's the case, Darryl (and Scott) - unless you happended to be posted to an "active" part of the front, there must have been [what's the exact quote?] "long periods of intense boredom punctuated by short periods of intense excitement"...but how often do you actually 'play' that in a game?

    All the best,
    Matt

Great close ups of those aircraft Darryl. They are very sharp.
Glad you had a good time.
