Wink WoG + Geocaching = Blue Max ?

May be this is not exactly what you epect in hobby section, but I want to share with you something that could interest you.
As you probably know, my big hobby is a Geocaching. In Geocaching, there are some special travel items - Travel Bugs and Geocoins. These geocoins sometimes travel between caches.
Today, I bough a special gecocoin. Just look at that - isn't is beautiful?

And you are going to put it in a box to someone else find it? That's cool.

Yes, but not this one... It is too shiny and too awesome

I let in caches several coins - one visited Argentina, another cross USA, visit Japan and now it is in Australia. Many of them are traveling in Europe

Yes, Phillip, I like the combination of outdoor, GPS and treasure huntings By the way, I discovered many interesting places only because I was seeking geocaches - for example the place of Louis Blériot landing near Dover, the oldest military airfiel in England or place here in Prague where crashed pilot of P-51D - there is only a small memorial
Try it, USA is the land of geocachers!

it does sound intriguing. sadly my arthritis has pretty much ended such physical activities. id always enjoyed exploring areas unknown to me as a kid and young adult. had gps come along earlier i probably would have enjoyed geocaching!

Understand, Philip. Fortunately, there are plenty of geocaches even in cities, parks etc - easy accesable. Or puzzle caches (Mysteries). I found some even with my grandfathers. It.is necessary to check the terrain rating - * are even for wheelchairs, for ***** you need some special equipment (rope, scuba,...). But most caches are from * to *** of terrain

I still hike a bit and have stumbled upon many geocaches along trails, even in the town where I work. One more interesting hobby I just don't seem to have the time for.

A group of friends in my Regiment do Geo caching and nip off for a look round the area whenever we are at a Muster in a new spot.

So you take pictures and replace them again somewhere?

Normaly yes. They are ment to be traveling from geocache to geocache.
Everytime someone drops them in one of these caches or takes them out of one he will log a notice on the geocaching plattform
so that the owner of that coin will know where it is. That is why all of the trackable coins have a unique tracking number (like an id).
In addition the coin collects the miles it made from the last place it was dropped.

But as this hobby became more popular there are some people not really paying attention to the guidelines we have who prefer to steel them.
That is why a lot of geocachers don't send their precoius coins out to travel anymore. They start using proxies instead of risking to loose the real coin.
You can nearly use anything as a proxy as long as the tracking number is on it.

The pictures above are my own coins that are here with me. Some of them are limited editions and would not get to far so I use a proxy to let them travel around the world.

In that case geocachers will win - they are much more experienced and, at least in USA, they can hold guns, because they are probably adult

But only the legal guns! lol

But only in buses in Columbus, OH, so we are OK - the geocache must have direct coordinates, so moving geocaches are not allowed

Furthermore, there is a saying that you should better not mess around with geocachers,
because they know places where nobody will find you

Reminds me of the joke about [insert least favorite sport of choice here] refs arguing over a set of tracks in the woods.

    Ref 2: "No, Bear Tracks."
*at this point argument ends abruptly as they are both hit by a train*
