    Default New rookie signing in.

    Good evening chaps.
Steve here from the Isle of Wight saying hello.
I am a complete rookie to Wings of glory and am still awaiting my sets to arrive so have yet to play.
Very much looking forward to it's arrival and having a crack at it,looks fun indeed.
Got to say this looks like a great site for what looks to be a great game.
I used to play Warhammer 40k but with work and 4 kids modelling time was tight and games can get long winded.this game appeals to me a lot with it's ready to go models and looks to be fast playing also.
I also fly model planes so it's like merging both hobbies into one.

    Steve.

Welcome from UK North Squadron, happy flying when your aircraft arrive. Are you dabbling with WGF (WW1) or WGS (WW2) ?
See you on the Dark Side......

    Thank you.

    Dabbling WW1 old chap.
By the way, would you mind decoding the "WGF" and "WGS" for me?

    Welcome Steve,

Fond memories of the Isle of Wright - used to sail out to it from Hailing Island with my dad when I was a boy and take the hovercraft from Southsea when the weather permitted.

WGF - Wings of Glory 'First World War'
WGS - Wings of Glory 'Second World War'

Many of the acronyms you can just hold the mouse pointer over if its underlined and it will give you the meaning of it.

Welcome to the 'drome Steve, and to the South East of England Squadron from a foggy East Sussex this a.m.
We had a ''SoldierSteve' on IOW - he hasn't been active on the forum for a couple of years but if you go to his profile here you could send him an e-mail & find a like minded wingman for gaming - he was always looking for another gamer !

Steve, I can now officially welcome you to the Drome as my latest Wingman, and on behalf of the pilots based here in the U.K. Squadrons. Do drop into the mess for a few cold ones and a chinwag.

Welcome Steve, from another Steve on the other side of the world in sunny California

As a former 40K player, I find Wings of Glory infinitely more enjoyable in every regard. Gameplay is much more fluid and fun, there's no rules lawyering, just fast movement, firing, tactics and fun. It's basically more or less what I'd hoped 40K would be, but which it never managed to deliver on.

So, good luck and enjoy your new set when it arrives! You might find bringing it along to the pub or cafe can result in a great deal of interest, and you may find yourself with some regular opponents in no time.

    Thank you.
That is exactly what I was hoping the game would be,40k became a like a chore in the end.
I've just received X-Wing and have been playing some basic games with my son who is really enjoying it more than he expected, tis a great game.
Still no sign of my Wings of glory though.I ordered from Wayland games last Friday and according to my account on their site it has not been sent out yet, everything was in stock.
    Cheers all
    Steve.

Welcome to the 'Drome from the plains of South Dakota! You'll love Wings of Glory and the folks here who play it. I've been on several message boards and I have to say this is the friendliest place I've seen to date. You're in a good place.
By the way, what WW1 minis did you order? Just curious to know...

    Thanks.
I ordered both duel sets which if memory serves include a Sopwith Camel,Fokker triplane,Albatross and a Spad.
I also ordered the rules and accessory pack too.
I'm sure once I've got some games under my belt I will want more though!

    Cheers
    Steve.

Ah, so you'll have Frank Luke Jr's SPAD XIII then! He is one of my favorite WW1 aviators.
Both the duel packs are awesome and contain minis you can't order by themselves. You'll have loads of fun.
