Thread: Scotland

    Default Scotland

    Im' curious what will happen.

Tomorrow morning we have the result.

I know that there are some ethnic-national attempts for more independency or separation in Europe, but I'm not shure if the UK is the same if Scotland leaves.

I wonder too, why there was so less presence in the German media of this election in the months and weeks before the last two weeks.

Personally I can't imagine that one of the German states leaves the federal republic of Germany.

Avoiding the politics, and providing just the historical background:

Scotland is not a state in a federal country.
Scotland is a country in it's own right that, 300ish years ago formalised a union with other countries in the same land mass.
That might sound like sophistry, but even before devolution in 1997, Scotland had it's own legal system, school system and version of the Great British Pound.
Since then it has taken on more self-management as part of devolution.

Like Quebec, more devolution might be enough for the people of Scotland, or perhaps independence is the logical outcome.
I guess we'll start to find out tomorrow.

Being a "political animal" as we say here in Poland, I will not respond to that thread for The Rule we share, BUT WILL DEFINITELY TALK ABOUT IT TOMORROW WITH A GLASS OF BEER IN HAND WITH OUR BRITISH FRIENDS!

I thought about a note in the first post that I see a more "historical" background.

Interesting mixture, but I would Scotland put in the category Czech Republic/Slowakia.

Sorry for an education moment, but I must...
Good there are not almost no Slovaks - Slowakia sounds a little bit Polish...

Thanks very much chaps for keeping the subject general.
I will be very happy to talk about it tomorrow Andrzej.
After all it will all be settled one way or the other by then, and I do not wish to affront any of my Scottish pilots, by anything that may be said even in innocence here on the Drome.

Not a politic question: I do not remember that I have ever see a pilot with a Scottish (or Welsh) flag here on the Aerodrome. Is it possible to have them or there are just users who wants old Unin Jack?

Waiting the result. In several times a portion of Brazil tried to get independent. Even some of the population of Sćo Paulo wanted independence in the 32 Revolution. Now thinking, there were even air combats in this Revolution! Curtiss, DH.Moths, Nieuports, etc, were used. And apparently my city was bombed too. Interesting. Just makes me want to buy more planes!
    Thanks

As Doncaster voters in the Scottish Referendum were therefore excluded from voting, will this render the whole process null and void?

Pity they wern`t asked to vote, the population of Doncaster would probably have been enough to make things go the other way!

Let's see the wonderful thing about this:

A league of nations accepted that one of their nations population decided if they wanted independence or not. They decided to stay in the league of nations. This means that democracy worked and the United Kingdom became stronger as a whole nation. This is a victory for civilization as a whole. Thank you so much.

I only wish that when the next nation does the same, democracy works there. I think that Spain will be the next one in Western Europe.
