Rewatching _Airplane!_, I began thinking about where "the War" was taking place.
The dive-bar/disco scene mentions "Bombay to Calcutta", which suggests a rear area along the eastern coast of India; the name "Macho Grande" suggests someplace where Spanish influence held sway. However, the only large territory near India the Spanish ever controlled was the Philippines. (I don't know enough Portugese to know if they would render "Macho Grande" that way.)
So I wonder about the possibilities of a campaign against "Leftist Agrarian Reformers" [ahem] in the Philippines following the fall of Vietnam, with the Westerners staging out of Borneo and/or enclaves on the Philippine islands.
Short version: This is what happens when my mind is allowed to wander -- fear what it may bring back.... >;)
