Thread: Official Lavochkin La-7 Painting Thread

Default Official Lavochkin La-7 Painting Thread

A couple of months ago, I bought two Lavochkin La-7s at shapeways; and here they are: the one with the lightning on the fuselage belongs to Amet-khan Sultan, while the other one to Maj. Shavrov. They both have three 20mm cannons, so their fire is "C-C-C".
Regarding the colours, I tried to imitate what I could find in coloured pictures regarding this soviet Aircraft (very few documents), since the soviet standards are hard to match with FS system. For the decals, sultans's plane was decorated by a friend of mine that has a very good hand and a strong experience in painting Warhammer miniatures. For Maj Shavrov's plane, I found good quality decals in "1/144 direct" website, directly onto e-bay.
Regarding the manouver cards, I read that this kind of kite could match the FW-190, so I decided to use that deck. Since the soviet plane is fast and has a radial engine, I gave her a strength of 19 (the ID card will be uploaded soon)

Well done, that man, I must consider buying them for my Eastern Front scenarios. However 19 points may be a bit too high considering the plane's overall construction and (low) quality of soviet manufaturing...

Well done, the models are great! I would like Ares to bring more soviet planes to the game for eastern front scenarioes as well. Coming to the strength, 19 points is way to high in my opinion taking into consideration all technical problems that plane has suffered till the end of war...

That is my next project, Rafał.
I am collecting both air forces in winter camo. There are plenty of options for playing them. Also ordered some Shapeways and AIM planes that would fit that front.
Soon they will appear on my table.

To be honest, it seems that the Russian haven't been taken into consideration very much by Ares Games.
Regarding the number of points for my La-7, I decided to give 19 because it had a radial engine that was more sturdy than an in-line cylinders one, like the P-51's Allison. Moreover, the materials quality of La-7 was better than the La-5GG one. One more reason is that the number of points is not decided only looking at the construction, but also for the plane speed, i.e. how hard is to be hit by enemy fire, either planes or flak. Now, the La-7 was nearly 30Km/h faster than the FW-190, and 20Km/h slower than a P-51. The Mustang has 19 points, but also an Allison engine.
