Thread: Help me choose the colour scheme!

  1. #1

Default Help me choose the colour scheme!

So I'm getting to the point in my Wingnut Wings Project where I need to choose which scheme to go with. I have 5 to choose from and I would like your input on to which one I should build.

So here are the 5 colour schemes to choose from:

Snipe E6351, GS Sapozhnikov, 1st Soviet Fighter Aviaotryad, 1920 (5 Victories)

Voted for Hawkinge - I like the chess stripe. Even Sapozhnikov does not look bad.

WOW...... Sapozhnikov is a sad story,

Sapozhnikov was 26 when he died on September 8th 1920, wow! ( I guess he gets my vote...talk about coincidence!)

He was a well know and respected Airman by both sides during the war and also the locals in the villages near the front. He was killed when his engine failed on take off.

red and white blocks in a diminishing pattern.
It's going to be a sod to paint, but what a sense of achievment if you manage it!

I would choose Szaposznikow scheme, for the plane could be used in Polish-Soviet War of 1920 recreation, which is my favourite period of post war airwarfare.

I chose F2367 because it is close enough to wartime standard to be used in a WW1 scenario.

That Soviet plane is stunning. You must do that one.

I am not absolutely sure it's a soviet scheme. Rather a White Russian one...

Checked. It is really a soviet plane...

F2367, because I have always gone big on those striped cowls of the RNAS. and for the reasons Kelly and David gave.

    Sapozhnikov gets my vote to.
That is just an awesome scheme.

But I would have gone for a WWI-scheme. But that's just me. The ones you chosen are some good looking Acs

    Loop,

If it had been an early version of the Sopwith Snipe then I would have certainly painted it up as a WWI combat aircraft. But very few of the late issues (they had variations in the rudder and tail) saw combat, and the only reason why Sapozhnikov machine actually saw action was because it was captured by the Russians in Poland repainted and camouflaged using local sourced materials and then put back in to action.

It's has well balanced colour scheme, simple but striking estetic - not overcrowded with unnecessary details. Also it has black star roundels, not unusual, but interesting enough

I voted for the 70 Sqd plane from 1919 because it still looks like a WW1 Snipe but has that great striped Cowling, Fuselarge stripes & a number.
I think the all silver kites are just too plain!

I just noticed this and went with the Soviet repaint. I played a game that Andy had at Origins and now want to do some repaints but I am not as good as all of you. Glad you posted this so I can see different colors that were used.

I can't decide whether I am intrigued or appalled by the stripes over top of the serial number on option 5. It would be cool to see it done, but it is perhaps a little aesthically displeaing.

    So the winner is:

Snipe E6351, GS Sapozhnikov, 1st Soviet Fighter Aviaotryad, 1920 (5 Victories)

Actually I'm glad as there is very little recognition for the Eastern front and this machine is very unique. So now it's time to get painting!

Good choice in the end James for all those who have leanings toward the, as you rightly say, Cinderella front of the
    Great War.
