Default The Three Best Wargames you've ever played

What are the three best wargames/boardgames/Miniature Games you've ever played.
Let's not count in these WoW/WoG of course. We're all here so we all know that this is high in our hearts.

    My Top Three are:

    Twilight Imperium
    Air Force/Dauntless
    Showdown

    Ok...

I have to share my runner-ups...

    Silent Death
    Battlelore
    Infinity
    Warlord

    Interesting question Joachim.
    I'd have to go with:
    Warmaster
    Close action
    Blood Bowl
    for the games involving miniatures.
There are too many great boardgames to choose three of them...

For me it's (of course not counting WOG)
    Wilderness War(GMT),
    Fallschirmjager(Gamers),
    Cobra(S&T)

The list is really too long to just pick 3 but these 3 I really have enjoyed.

Axis & Allies classic? Europe? Pacific?

I've played a lot Warmaster. I preferred Epic though.

Of these I only know Fallschirmjager. I read a lot about Wilderness War, though.

Europe 1940. My brother is thinking in expanding to Pacific 1940 and making and gigantic board... That would take some 6 hours to finish ONE game.

Risk - A Classic. I've started with this one.
Richtofen's War, I've played little, moving straight to Blue Max.
Frigate, never played. I've played Wooden Ships, Iron Men

I'm currently involved in playing 'Risk Legacy'. Awsome rendition of Risk. I highly recommend it to a group of 5 players.

If you like WS&IM you must try Flying Colors. FC has bumped WS&IM for me.

Ogre is a game on futuristic warfare with gigantic tanks. A pretty basic easy game to learn with wide open possibilities to make scenarios, like WoG. There is the original pocket size version so you don't have to hurt yourself trying to open the Deluxe box.

Yes, though I still have my original 1st edition from '77. If you look around on the off-topic section of the forum, you may find pics I've posted of the times we've played.
And yeah, that box is huge. I still haven't figured out where to put the thing.

    Hmmmm best three games?
Frederick the Great - SYW rules for miniatures. Been playing since 1979.
SEEKREIG 4 - Miniatures rules for Naval combat pre-dreadnoughts thru WW II. Playing since 1981.
Rally round the flag - ACW ruleset for miniatures. This was the first ACW rule set I played and my first miniatures painted.
Picked up the rules in 1976. Still have them and also some of my original Heritage figures. Amazingly, my painting has improved over the past 38 years.

OK, so I'm a little biased to my original games.

All are miniatures wargames (not much of a boardgamer)...

    ... in no particular order...

    Johnny Reb III- (Regimental-level ACW)
Ambush Alley/Force on Force- (contemporary warfare)
Wings of War/Wings of Glory- (WWI air combat)

    "Also ran"s...
    Tomorrow's War- (SciFi skirmish)
    X-Wing Miniatures- (SciFi fighter combat)

    Chris

    Thumbs up

Well I am a "rank" amateur compared to you chaps as I only got into Wargaming about 18 years ago through my grandsons & that was 40K
Now I really enjoyed my games with Sisters of Battle & Black Templars until GW decided to change all the good basics to enable them to sell more minis. ( Dont even mention the physic powers AKA Magic from Fantasy!)

I did have the Gettysburg board game I played with my daughters way back but once WoG/WoW got me that was it.

I wanted to love 40k, I really did, but it just never happened, despite investing twice over the years and really giving it a good go. The idea was great, the reality sucked...

Does chess count as a wargame? Because I like that pretty well, although I'm not particularly good.

Risk, Axis & Allies and Attack! are pretty fun, but all sort of variations on a theme.

With all that said, the only game I've invested hundreds of hours into playing is Wings of War / Wings of Glory. It's by far and away the best... hits all the sweet spots for me and my kids.

In grade school it was the board game Tank Battle. (Also put in a ton of time with Eletric Football)....kinda of a war game..
High School, played RISK until we wore it out.
Also put a lot of time in Sirocco and wish I could have put more time into the Battle of Britain game.
Still have all of these but since the kids are all grown up they tend to collect dust.

    Hmmmm

I'll join the OGRE group (and yes, I did get the huge box and the extra counter sets - after checking the structural integrity of the loft games room )
SAGA Dark Ages skirmish - got to love those 28mm Bretons
Perfidious Albion (pre-dreadnought naval - lots of fun with lots of exploding ships if you are lucky / unlucky)

It's difficult, 'cos others like Wooden Ships Iron Men, Richthoven's War, X-Wing miniatures, Risk etc. are all up there too

I lost my patience with ASL. Too much mechanic for my taste. But I did played and enjoyed back in the '90's Squad Leader.
Panzer leader was very good. But I needed the "this is my little tank" aspect of tank war.
Ah Battletech... The things I could tell about it... And then of course Renegade Legion's Leviathan. FASA!!

I loved Warhammer and WH 40K when they were young games, 40K was called rogue trader and White Dwarf explained how to make scratch built things. Then GW became a monster and I lost my love for it. I still love Man'O'War, Space Hulk and Epic. But those were other times...

Other games arrived and many of them really better.

I haven't played a B17 in a long while but I'm currently on my third tour with 314 Sqn flying Lancasters with the modified rules set.

I really liked the Knight Hawks starship rules from Star Frontiers (still available on pdf for nowt over at starfrontiers.com) as for a third I'd go for Battleships

This list reminds me (don't know why) of another treasure lost. Flat Top. I've crushed the Japanese and the American hopes several times in my Pacific Ocean made of hexes.
