Thread: Any F2B champions out there?

Default Any F2B champions out there?

I do not claim to be any sort of good pilot but I think the Bristol is one of the best planes in our game

We had 4 games yesterday. I got shot down in the first flying a camel, in the second I got shot down flying a Hanriot HD1, in the third I had Dead Eye **** as my observer and managed to share in a kill despite my average piloting. How can anyone beat that! No effort required and the passenger does all the work

    Thumbs up

Yes Gary, the Brisfit is a good mix of strength & manoeuvrability & was a great success in the War once pilots learned to fly it as a Fighter & NOT a 2 seater.

I do not yet have any F2B craft, but am planning to pick up a few. Historically it seems to be a very good plane, but I'm not sure it translates to the game as such. I'm eager to find out.

Big fan of them also. Got 5 now. Also big fan of the German CLs.

Can't claim to be a Champion Gary, but I do enjoy flying mine.
Makes a nice change from "Zoom and Boom."

I like the German Cl. class too. Generally speaking, if I'm running a game with Brisfits, I keep them at B/B guns, which I think the majority in the war were. Maybe some B/As late war.

We flew with B/B gun rules as well and ignored the cards. We had 2 Brisfits and an RE8 against a couple of CL.II's and a Halberstadt 2. The ability to reverse course was a great feature too. I reckon the Brisfit was a tad better than the CL.II, in the game anyway.

Having a 2 seater that can Immelmann is a wonderful thing.

I could be mistaken and I don't have a source to cite, but I think it was actually the opposite - B/A (i.e. two guns in back) early, and then later as they had to fly higher and higher, they dropped one gun in back (making it B/B) for superior ceiling and climb performance.

I always try to keep the 2 seaters B/B.
They do add a different strategy to the game. Which I like a lot.

    Me too.
Particularly when used in squadrons/flights - it's so rewarding to manoeuvre your scouts in such a way as to split one off from the herd, then take it out, without being torn to shreds by multiple 'A' rear guns!
Also, a lone B/B 2 seater on a reconnaissance mission has to think and manoeuvre when approached by a single enemy scout, rather than just sitting there and blazing away with 'A' guns.

I have the Crossfire expansion, so, lots of F2Bs!! Cards, of course, but still so cool. I like it. 3 Dr.Is cant take him out sometimes.
    Thanks

I also like playing with points to keep things even. Lets say 350 pts.
3xF2.B (B/A) 333 with 17 left over for ace skills
    verses
4xAlb D.Va 328 with 22 left over for ace skills
    makes for an interesting game.

I recently picked up the Osprey book on Bristol Fighters. The book makes several points.
    1) there was a lot of over-claiming of kills by both sides but the Bristol Fighter squadrons were the worst offenders. If you think about it, there are two potential claimants per aeroplane.
    2) crews did refer to double attacks where either the rear-gunner started the shooting and the pilot finished off as the enemy fighter overshot OR the reverse where the front gunner would start the attack and the rear gunner finished off as the Bristol Fighter overshot.
    3) they were NOT called 'Brisfits'. This appears to be a post-war thing. During the war they were called 'Biffs' and at least one former Biff pilot was incensed over the subsequent use of the 'Brisfit' nickname.

So let's hear it for the 'Biff'!

You are correct. "Biffs" it will be!

Even if it does sound a little wimpy!

I think this fellow would disagree with you...

Biff, a rather unfortunate sobriquet given its long term use by the RN to mean something a bit crap, or someone a few cans short of a sixpack.....

(which is why the character in BttF always made me chuckle - it seemed so appropriate)

If I tend to play for the Entente (for some historical reasons I'm rather a Kaiser's pilot), Bristol Fighter should be my first and foremost aircraft. By the way: Do you guys know, that Post-Great War Poland was the second largest (right word?) BF user after UK?
