Thread: Bombers

    Default Bombers

I don't know how to start a poll but here is my question......

What do you think the next set of bombers will or should be?

So far we have B-25 (US)/He-111(Germany)/B-17 (US)/Lancaster (UK).

Should the next set be something other than US/UK/Germany?

Could it be a Betty/SM-79/B-24/Ju-88/Do-17/Pe-2/Tu-2/French 451? So many choices.

    Your thoughts.

    FW-200 Kondor
    Betty
    SM-79
    Tu-2

Not much use for a Kondor. The others are a good choice.

The Kondor saw battles in the Atlantic against Sea Hurricanes launched by catapults or against other Coastal Guard planes. One was shot down near south of Portugal by long range Mosquitoes that were hunting it for three weeks.

Pretty good scenarios, I'll tell you.

True but how many people would want a Kondor. Not a good business thing. This has to do with business.

    You're right in that.

    SB-2 (Russia)
    Betty (Japan)
    B-24 (US)
    Ju-88 (Germany)

There are a lot of options, but i think that good scenarios can be played out of this four.
    Thanks

If taken from a sales pont of view the two that I would buy (and I mean more than one) is firstly the Betty and secondly a Wellington.

We already have two official USA bombers (B-25 and B-17), one German (He-111), one British (Lancaster). I think that the next two should be Japanese (Betty) and Russian or Italian (Pe-2/SM-79).

As I want them all, any mainstream bomber will be alright for me.

Yes Joaquim I had forgoten about the Russian PE-2 that would also be a good choise.

'Cos you didn't get hold of an HBM one???

I would go with Nick's choice, but swap out the SB2 for a Mosquito B.I.V

    Junkers Ju-88
    Savoia-Marchetti SM.79
    Mitsubishi G4M "Betty"
    Mitsubishi Ki-67 "Peggy"
    Heinkel He-177

    Lots of reprint/repaint potential, too

For the Russians the Petlyakov Pe-2 or the Tupolev Tu-2. (Zvezda are rumoured to be in the process of producing a Pe-2 kit in 1/200 scale)
For the Italians the Savoia-Marchetti SM.79.
For the Japanese the Mitsubishi G3M Nell, G4M Betty, Ki-21 Sally or Ki-67 Peggy.

Thanks Steve. The Mosquito B.I.V. is a good option too, but as we already have a bomber for the UK, I guess a Russian bomber would be more appropriate.
    Thanks

I dont know, maybe later. The B-29 was introduced later in the war and, as you said, only saw action on the Pacific Theater. Although its very cool, i think it should be added later.
    Thanks

    Betty definitely.
Then... B-24 might be too big, a 4-engine mismatches. Might partner with a Halifax.
    SM79 might not sell well.
    IL4 - too obscure.
    Pe2 - Really a "heavy fighter" like a Mosquito.
Ideal would be a PBY of some type. The problem is that they're too slow for the game mechanics. But would sell well if partnered with Bettys.

The SM79 may be more popular (and widespread) than you might think.

I'd rather see the Catalina paired with a Mavis or Emily, myself... maybe Cat with Mavis, PBM with Emily, and Sunderland with Wiking or Flying Clog.

As I am totally biased towards BoB,
    I would like to see JU88, Do17. & Blenheim

As bomber packs come in duets, Betty and Sparviero would be the most welcome for many reasons. So far we have no Japanese nor Italian official medium bomber. Both planes saw action on many fronts, land and sea. But taking into account Ares publishing policy I tend to doubt that we shall see them in two years time if ever.

I fully agree with you, Andy.
Next WW2 series will be the four single engine fighters and attack planes already in the pipe.
I would phantom that after that we'll have another series with 2 single engine and 2 heavy twin-engine fighters/attack planes.
Unless the B-17/Lancaster combo sells a lot, we'll see another special set in 2/3 years from now.

But one thing became clear: Ares will make only 3 types of bases and working with that we can create every plane of the war.

Dear Dave, are you, by any means, feeling the pull to the Dark WW2 Side?! We're doomed...

This is a photo of a game last weekend with some F-Toys (1/144) SM-79's. There could be many Med games with these.
