    Default Top or Side

    Just a quick design question.

I have made tuck boxes for the WoG WW1 maneuver decks. Each box is customized so that the maneuver deck type is displayed on the bottom, and the plane and pilot are also on the box. Currently, I have the plane on the top of the box, with the pilot on the side. But, would it be better to have the pilot on top and the plane on the side?

Any chance of a picture to get an idea of what it's like now?

I agree with Neil, pictures should help.

I was at work when I posed the question, so I did not have pic support.

I guess it depends on how you store/stack them.
    Very cool.

Currently, they are on their side so that the pilot name is up. I guess the real question is what piece of information is more important: the pilot name, or the plane type.

I would probably go with the plane type.

I'd be tempted to print the plane card on one of the sides. Save finding pictures of them.

I thought of that. It would mean I would have to scan the cards in, or find a sight with all the cards (I haven't poked through everything here, yet).

Let me know which aircraft cards you need for your decks Dave.

I agree with Mike and the rest.
    The boxes are beautiful.

I think this way is good David, as the pilot name is usually bigger than the plane type. Also the boxes are stunning! Great Job!
    Thanks

My temptation comes from having most of the planes in Photoshop templates already. I even have cards for my custom paints and redecals. Now, I suspect Rob has scans of a lot, if not all printed cards? He might actually be a better source for your project.

But you won't (shouldn't) find commercially produced copies of plane cards on this site for copyright reasons. That is why certain maneuver decks were removed.

You may have issues with your tuck boxes, but as long as no-one is buying them from you, or ARES doesn't start making them themselves, you should be OK. This is one of those fine-line areas. Does a company want to exercise their copyright (whether you are making money or not), or condone your use of their logo and let you promote their game?

That out of the way, what are you using to made the boxes? What weight of card stock?

Most of the tuck boxes I make are strictly for me, and I do not look to resell them. I make boxes for a lot of my games, and the only ones I have shared (free of cost) were the ones I created for Sails of Glory.

The templates for the boxes are made through a template maker website. I prefer this one because in addition to tuck boxes, they have templates for a number of other styles as well (I used the box with lid template to create token boxes for WoG WW2).

I have been printing them on 65 lb card stock, which works well with my printer and seems sturdy enough for what I am using them for. I did pick up a pack of 110 lb card stock, but have not used any of that yet.

Well the offer is still there Dave.
They are all bought and paid for. What you do with them is up to you, and it won't cost you a red cent.( I believe that is what you chaps say.)

    Kyte.
I'll keep it in mind. I just finished printing boxes for the planes I have, so I don't think I'm going to be reprinting anytime soon (in theory, making these things has become sort of a habit for me). It might be interesting to see what the would look like with the actual cards, so I might send off a list (it'll be a short one, I don't have that many planes... yet).

Glad to help out any time Dave.
They will still be here and they don't eat much.

Just some of the pics of the token boxes, and more.

For the token boxes, I used the rule book to get the tokens to put on each box. One of them has a number of d10s which I plan to use for fuel gauges instead of the tokens.
