    Lightbulb B-29`s Over Japan

Played at Guns Of August 2014

A quick in and out raid by B-29`s attempting to knock out a factory.

    Forces:

    USAAF Three B-29`s altitude 12.

    IJAAF one KI-61, two KI-100 , two KI-84 and one KI-46 III.

Set up: The Bombers started two firing stick from the target. The fighters over their own territory of the players choosing.

Players i moved the bombers and flew the Tony and Dinah. BobP flew the two Ki-100`s and David the two Frank.

Special Rules. Ramming attacks were the last option of late war Japan. A fighter moving at High Speed in a collision would inflict and draw a D damage chip.

The game started slow and quickly heated up with a head on pass by one of Bob` KI-100. His target was the lead B-29 which blew up. The celebration was unfortunately short. The defensive fire and a collision ended his flying career. After all the firing was over one lone B-29 remained in the air. With two dead engines and on fir and smoking they called it a day and headed home.

In all a Japanese Pyrrhic victory!

    This was a fun game!

Very cool. 1/200 B-29's? Nice idea to have a "formation" base.

Everything is 144 scale. There is 1:200 scale die cast B-29, Model Power makes them. I saw some at Hobby Town locally recently. That large base saves a lot o aggravation! It allows the bombers to run by one player!

Nice looking game. Richard. You're right; the bomber base saves a lot of aggravation.
I did get a Model power B-29 (from your recommendation IIRC), but I'm not near a Hobby town, and at $20 each, a bit much.
maybe a bribe.....er shipment of cookies to the Arizona Elf reservation is in order

Must make a Heinkel III flight base like yours. I have 3 1/144th scale Heinkels for BoB at Border Reiver. That base is just the job. Fantastic pics of a very exciting game.

The best thing about the photo frame base is it flexibility. On Friday night they were B-29`s on Saturday night they were SM.79`s and a JU-88. Slide the cards in and away you go! I now have some using the standard Litko flight pegs and toppers. My new builds are using the new Heavy Duty Litko pegs and toppers! The same base in the photos, just swapping the cards!

    Great idea Richard.
I must try that when I get my Lancasters.

They make the big birds much easier to control. That gives more time for the fighters!

You unleashed a lot of firepower versus the Fortresses, Rich.

Great to see a Jap multi engined fighter in battle.

I spotted US escort fighters in the pictures. Were they able to help the heavy ones a little bit, Rich??

Thank you, yes the big guns came out! I planned on running two scenarios. The first an unescorted mission, which the vast majority of B-29 missions were. The second an escorted mission. We did not play the second one.
