100 Years Ago Today in WWI Aviation History: 20 August 1914 - German aviators from 6th and 7th armies conduct tactical reconnaissance and highly effective artillery spotting work. Bavarian FFA 2b and 1b located hidden French artillery batteries "the Battle of Morhange-Sarrebourg". Airmen of FFA 8 reported operating over the battlefield in "close proximity to three French aircraft" who were doing tactical reconnaissance work of their own. Unarmed and more interested in helping the ground troops, the opposing airmen left each other alone to do their work.
