On behalf of the rest of the Squadrons based here in the U.K. I can now formally welcome you to the Drome as my Wingman Stephen. I'm sure that as soon as the chaps come back from the evening OP they will be keen to tell you what you need for a good game. In the meantime why not pop along to the Officers' Club and blag a few beers off the chaps in there.
    Fly safe.

Hi there and welcome to the 'Drome. When you get the Duel packs you'll be good to go. They have all you need to start playing including rules counters measuring sticks planes of course and maneuver and damage decks. So you should be able to get by just fine for a while. The included rules are just the basic set so no bombers or altitude, but they are great for getting comfortable with the mechanics of the game, which are really quite simple. If you want you could pick up a bomber or two and those include a set of the bomber rules. I think the only thing not covered would be two seaters which are in the more advanced parts of the rulebook. Hope this helps and hope you have great fun here and with the game.

G'day Stephen & Welcome to the 'drome on behalf of the pilots who fly in NSW down in Australia.
Mate if you are enthusiastic now just wait until you play a few games!

Now about your query. Any "A" Firing planes. i.e. ones with two forward firing machine guns can be flown with the gear you get in the Duel packs.
You would need a "B" damage deck to fly the single gun aircraft which include 2 seaters with one gun front & one for the observer.
Now you could just use the "A" damage deck & halve the damage which some of the chaps do until they get the "B" deck.
The RAP Box also included the "C" deck used for collisions & AA fire plus the "D" deck for anti Balloon Rockets.

Its a great time to get right into the game as there are many aircraft available. Just check out what Keith has in the Aerodrome Store at the top of the Home Page.

Now about Solo play. Its really great & the charts & templates are available to download from the Files Section of the Forum.
Check out the After Action Reports of Solo games down in the WW1 Campaign section ---subsection Over the Trenches.

Look forward to hearing of your progress!

Welcome to the Drome Stephen! Looks like Barry covered most things.

If your still having problems picking up a RAP, no worries as it looks like Ares is going to do another print (restock) on September.

Thankyou all for the welcome and the advice, good to hear the R and A pack is being re issued saves me having to scour the internet to find the illusive pack,i know the rules are on the Ares website but it was the damage decks etc i was most interested in as i thought it may limit my expansions but as its being re printed i dont have to worry.
What got me into this is X wing big star wars fan see ,i know its a bit different ,anyway ive always seen wog/wow and thought that looks good but never took the plunge but with all the ww1 commemorative stuff going on it just got me that bit more interested and seeing the duel packs seemed the best way to go.
Again any advice on what to expand on ,two seaters or bombers i would probably get one for each side once i get the R and A .
    Cheers
    Stephen

I would grab one of the Capronis and a Gotha whilst they are still available. As they are reprints who knows when a third reprint will come out?

Welcome to the 'drome Stephen from a not so sunny East Sussex this morning - but then I expect you know that already !
To answer your question - you can add any aircraft to your collection and use them - the RAP just provides more in depth rules, rules for other things, like balloons, flak etc and all the damage decks you'd need to use them, so if you can find one it's not a bad idea to get one.

P.S - don't wait for the RAP before you start buying kites - get stuck in now while there are plenty about !

id echo what others have said and get the bombers while theyre available. id also grab any 2 seaters that you can as they really add to the flavor of the game. flying endless fighter vs fighter, while never boring can get a bit stale after awhile. the other a/c are nice for setting up scenarios when you have enough players as well. i started out with the 2 duel packs as well thinking to only have those for awhile while i aquired other a/c but soon got the rules box to have a common storage option for all the bits.

Welcome to the 'Drome from UK Squadron North Stephen. Sent you a PM. Hit the WW1/campaign discussion/Over the Trenches then look at the top section for OTT Over the Trenches Missions, or follow the link:

    http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...paign-Missions

and here for the rules and handy hints etc:

    http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...Campaign-Rules

The other two sections Early and Late obviously cover the Early and Late war periods. The middle bit (above links) should cover your era of aircraft quite nicely.

Right here is a bit of a newbie question, how do I tell from the expansions whether it's a two seater ,single seat or bomber the description they give doesn't help ,as you can tell I'm not an expert on ww1 planes.

A two-seater has firing arcs in the front and rear sides. A single seater will only fire forward.
You can find cards of all of them and some more in the files section.

    Hi Stephen, welcome from Bristol.

Generally at the moment you can get either a Gotha bomber, or a Caproni bomber, borth these come in two schemes, they are large multi engined and crew models.
Two seaters are generally, escorts, Recce or , if you would prefer, light bombers.
Currently available you have the Halberstadt CL and the a Bristol fighter, these are single engine , pilot and observer.
Just re-released is the DH4 two seater, with a German Roland two seater coming soon.
You have at the moment a number of single seater, single engined scouts ranging from early war to late war with the new Snipes and DVII.
Take a look at the Aerodrome Accessories link which will show you a number of available models, these are all in the states.
In UK check out Doms Decals site, he has just stocked up , also Gameslore, Stafford games and IGUKhave stocks that I am aware of.

Download this document from the files section Stephen - it's fully up to date until March this year and will give you all you need for contents and helpfully has pictures too. Have a look on the Aerodrome store for pics of the latest releases.
