All right you Teasers!
I am going to guess a painting or poster of MvR in his Red Dr.I or Albatross D.III.
now that would be nice! but this one is nicer! it will be "dynamic" . . .
You're most welcome. It was a pleasure to ofer you this present.
Could it be a rubber-propelled 1/6 scale Fokker Dr.I kit?
Eric, we're getting someplace...
Close, but that would require over 120 grams of competition rubber strip to fly, which reminds me that in the '60s a guy in England made a full sized Dr 1 from balsa! Now I have to find that article . . . Oh yes the mystery continues!
Well I remembered it half right . . . it was 16 foot wing span, not full size! Man the internet is awesome, here she is:
The guy also built SE5's to go with the pair of DR!'s. Auctioned off in New York in the '60's

It must be a zeppelin model in red
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Hmm, I never thought of paining one red . . . interesting but not a winner, : (
I just hope they will be very happy together.

My attempt: a kite in the shape of a Dr.I. You need wind and a long string of rope to fly it!
My relation with Dave doesn't allow me to offer him some gadgets. Dreams, yes, but only flying ones.
Have been watching this and can't wait to see what the package contained.
I would bet that 324 elves are working on it right now, Bob.
And I'll tell you that since the "object" left my hands, I'm also in the dark.
Ah yes the mystery gift! It is indeed awesome and will keep a new team of elves busy for a while. I am looking at it each evening and have been drawn into the bits and possibilities which will engage for a great cause. The century date for it is coming soon, so we will be descending into the larger workshop; well timed for the days are becoming kinder here on us mortal humans . . . only one has come close, and that was done by clandestine PM means. I will entertain your suggestions a day more, then do the horrible act of bringing reality to bear its sun and heat. The unknown is so much more intriguing than simple reality . . . the quest is the thing! Don Quixote rocks!
Fun, but not the item in the box . . .
Ok, lets be smart: Joaquim found this in a market. We can find cool things in a market like this one. Here I even a found a WWII german helmet (with a bullet hole, but still). A Dr.I wing???
Thanks
Nick
Ah! The act of revealing something.
And using dave's words...
Ok. I get it now. "The Reveal" is taking so long that it is confirming my suspicion that this is all a hoax set up by Joaquim and Dave to keep us all on the edge of our seats.
You guys are wizards with photoshop, but there are tell-tale signs... Someone has already pointed out that the license plate from 'Dave's truck' is from the wrong state. And if you look carefully at the picture of the box at Joaquim's and the box propped up against the truck you will notice that a) the box is in the exact same position, and b) the shadows are exactly the same!
Nice try, guys, but I'm on to you now!
Okay! Okay!
You caught us, Jon.
It was just a prank. I knew that the car would give us away... I told you, dave... I told you and you just didn't listen to me...
You sound like those guys who accused us of faking the moon walk, we really did it (in my back yard in AZ!)
The mystery of the license plate: it is a vanity plate sample from Idaho that allows me to slip past boarder patrol on my clandestine visits to my grandson on Idaho.
And the Shadow of Doubt, always a fun factor!
The ride, Dave, it was the ride that gave us away!
SERIOUSLY?!?!?! Its.... FAKE!?!?!? Oh come on!!!!
Full disclosure time. The red is important. The Dr1 idea emerged and the model theme sustained the mystery, the clues line up and here we are:
The elves are preparing a large enough work bench in the shop. At such a large wingspan 49", the local gym will not contain it's flights.
Find the Sopwith Triplane hiding on the plans and you will get an idea of how big and awesome it is! Again thanks Joaquim for such a joyful and inspirational friendship and gift! It will soar my friend, I have just the proper radio and engine ready to go! Salute! We will fly at a distant dawn patrol and pictures will follow! Thanks also for all the friendship and fellowship of the crew here, a great blessing indeed! Carry on now! Elves at full salute!
Now I sit and wait for the show to begin. Popcorn anyone?
Well now we all know what it is. A very fitting present for our master builder of aeroplanes.
Now we simply wait for the denouement.
Rob.

A magnificent gift. A real challenge for the elves! We will all watch the completion process with excitement
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
How much longer are you going to keep us in suspense, Clipper?
The suspense is over... Now the show unfolds... Sit back, relax and enjoy...
But THINK! This will keep him away from scratch building soooo many Wings models
Only kidding 'Quim. What a great present & Dave is sure to bring it to an awesome conclusion.
It's some kind of a kit model!
That's one helluva mystery gift. Well done Joaquim.
