    Yes Zoe, I agree.
I got a couple of the JU52s and for the price they are excellent VFM.
They assemble with a minimum of fuss, and the details are very crisp.

They are cheap and very nice. I might even get them done this year

I got a tripe of Ju.52s at Origins, but are still waiting for the Ju.88s to hit the New country.
Thanks for the pointer to the B-17; hopefully, my local hobby store can get them.

£2.75 for a B17? Hmmm, that makes a bomber box affordable.

Interestingly, Hannants have it listed as 1/240 despite what it says on the box.

I have 3 Ju-52's that I have to work on alone with the 100 or so F-Toys 1/144 planes. Many planes and have to make time. Thanks for the reminder that I have the Ju-52 model.

    Measuring from the sprue - wingspan 15.9cm +/- 1mm, length 11.3cm +/- 1mm
    That means 31.8m x 22.6m at 1/200

Actual B17G dimensions - 31.6m x 22.6m. So 1/200, spot on within measurement error bounds.

I have an academy B17 for Pearl Harbor/Kanoehe Bay and it's spot on for size. Just need to wait for Oberst to make the bases available.

At that price a squadron would be affordable.

I was thinking along the lines of a static game, ie the B17's don't move. The fighters attacking do, that way movement is minimal. Altitude is easily worked out for the B17's. Any aircraft dropping out of formation move independantly and can be attacked as normal.

Good enough for me! Thanks Zoe.

Scrolling map? I was working on a three-scroll (or even four-scroll) map for bomber missions, similar to my "Slay the Leviathan" rig. Pictures here: Scrolling Map

Well, at least they're in good hands.
You know, now that you have them, you have to fly them ALL AT ONCE! .

The plan is to get 12 B17Gs from AIM once Dave brings them out so I can have 2 boxes trundling about at one of the conventions. This assumes 1) I can get a big enough table, and 2) Keith makes some B17 bases (hint, hint Herr Oberst).

Wow; you're going to have fun running all those control cards! (already thinking about how to do it )

I thought a box was 18 bombers, though?

That I have to see, 24 B17's on the table all at once. With P51's in support? Be nice to see a squadron of Red Tails.

Now where did I put them 262's?

322nd Bomb Squadron, 91st Bomb Group, 8th Air Force markings? Although the Squadron marking should be LG, not LC?

Are these going to be done in the box markings?

Exactly Mike, and right about the codes.

I will probably go with the 324th to fit with Ares' Memphis Belle

I note that the early B-17Fs didn't have the 91st Group Red Tails. So, is the box art really wrong?

PS: Just looked at ARES "Memphis Belle". No red tail, no Group A triangle.

I'm not an expert in the subject, but I thought the large tail markings showed up quite late in the war.
    Any experts out there?

Not that late - September '43 iirc.

    KK.
Just checked the Memphis Belle info, and she completed her 25th in May of '43 So, no Group A triangle is accurate, and could be the same for the red tail markings. I've seen other images of 324th planes, and the B-17Fs are sometimes in all green livery. It would make sense that the images are pre-Sep '43.

From what I can see the red tail markings came in post '43, with further changes (including the wing markings) being added late '44/early '45. I am still researching to see when exactly the 324th got their red tails, if nothing definitive then I will go with Memphis Belle era camo. Makes painting easier if nothing else.

Scored another 3 Academy B-17s for $9 each (including postage), this time from Poland. They had 1 left last time I looked, I deliberately didn't buy them all. Got some more Ju52s and LI-2s too.

Oops, seems they're out now (

Still have Zvezda Ju52,Ju88 and LI-2 though.

Just after I completed all the ones I needed.
