Thread: Ouch! Airplane magazine - good news and bad news.

  1. #1

Default Ouch! Airplane magazine - good news and bad news.

The good news is that the 2 BE2 repros have been assembled and are flying in the UK. The bad news is that the Shuttleworth Sopwith Triplane pranged on landing recently and will be out of commission for a couple of years.

News items include the sale of aircraft from the B of B film (and there is a full page ad for the sale if you are feeling flush), articles on Duxford 1917-18, flying the Nieuport 17 replica with a double page colour pic, the Sopwith Dolphin and the art of Biggles.

And while they're fixing the landing gear, they can shorten up the wing struts....

A trip to WHS again this month then Steve. Thanks for the tip off.
What a pity about the Tripe, but at least no one bought it this time.
I wonder what I could re mortgage the house for?

The Fleet Air Arm's Sea Fury's just been pranged too - fortunately not too severe, and the pilot walked away fine, but it's rather banged up. (Sounds like something went amiss with the engine and he made an emergency landing with sensible alacrity, but unfortunately hit the deck before the gear was down and locked, so it collapsed.)

It's not so much the severity, but the availability of bodies to do the repair work plus having to find the necessary akkers to pay for it.

They have a Spit going for 3 mill. Not as bad as it seems as they are talking $US, not proper money

Is this the one that they have only finished restoring? I love the comment in the BBC News website report: "the pilot walked away very quickly." File that one under 'No s**t Sherlock'

You read about that all the time in the books. Only usually it is on a Flight Deck. Getting to be a bit of an expensive week.
