Default Woodhorn Museum: Northumberland History Fair on Sunday 26th October

Just had an invite to be part of the Northumberland History Fair on Sunday 26th October at Woodhorn Museum. Just sold the pitch for a two part involvement: Display of WW1 aircraft and a participation game. More likely the former but I hold out that we can get both depending on space.

Watch this space Northumberland A Flight you know whats coming, yes volunteers to assist.

Without further ado here is the report from the History Fair at Woodhorn Museum:

    The team assembled:
skafloc (Neil), skipper (Sean), Iancram (Ian) from the Aerodrome ably supported by John Robertson and Neil Scott from S.E.N.Wa.G
(South East Northumberland Wargames Group based at Newbiggen Sports Center).
Dave Knight popped in for a flying visit on his way back home and joined in the fun during game 1 when Neil Scott departed.

Sparky's (Neil) lovely games mat loaned for the day.

So we started our first game to get the punters interested. Camels and Spads v Fokker Dr1's of Jasta 11.
Ian and myself commanded the Allies and Neil and Sean JAsta 11. That was the good news it went downhill from there on in!

It just did, a three way blasting and my Spad spirals into the ground.

Cheers Dave for taking over on the Hun side and blasting me to bits! But you deserve the kill if only to keep Sean quiet. Can't have him claim another 'I shot Dad down again Mam.'

We then had a quiet period but a lot of interest in the static displays.

After a quick lunch we decided that the Zeppelin should make an appearance so we set up Hunt the Zeppelin.

and Judy flying under the Zeppelin and hitting me with 2 B's and 2 A's gets the kill. Down to 11 damage by now her 5/4, 5/4 is enough to down the Zeppelin.

A great game made better by the enthusiasm of our young, and not so young, novice flyers. Ably assisted by a fantastic team: Ian, Sean and John.

    Quote of the day:
'Where are you from then Ade'
'Down south but we live in E........'
    'oh where abouts?'
    'L...... W..'
    'What number?'
    '15'.
    'That's funny I live at number 14'.

    Funny old world aint it?

Hopefully. I'm told he has a large collection of 1/72nd aircraft by his wife. Now to get him flying 1/144th and 1/200.

That was 3 6x2 tables and we needed more room. 1916/17 was cramped and we didn't get everything on the table. We did get nearly 60 aircraft on display and some lovely conversations with older visitors, one who told me their mother could remember the zeppelin raids over London and then went through the blitz.

A fine looking display, I like the idea of showing the aircraft grouped by year, it needs a lot of space though.

Yep. chimpchoker loaned some of the more unusual aircraft for the display but the majority are mine. All the info boards I put together over the last 2-3 months.
