Default Lend-lease planes on Eastern Front

At the moment my son and I are going mainly play over the Eastern front he wants to know what lend-lease planes saw action and if any flew escort for the IL 2's.

I know they flew P-39, P-40 and the P-47 but what else was used?

    Cheers

    http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/englis...deliveries.htm provides an overview.

http://ww2-weapons.com/History/Produ...Lend-Lease.htm provides detailed numbers of what was delivered (note the percentage of "Soviet" acft. which were foreign-sourced).

After looking at those % of allied aircraft I will get him some Hurricanes, and P-39's for the Daughter some LaGG3's that way they know what planes are theirs.

Now I need to find some Hurricanes and P-39 custom cards painted in Russian colours? or were they repainted?

I know with regards to the lend lease tanks a lot were left in British or American colour schemes but had Russian markings. Would this have been the same for the Aircraft?

    G'day again Alan.
Mate take a look at the Bell Aerocobra images via Google & you will find many colour schemes for ones in Russian Service.
A.I.M make a great resin model of the P-39 & they did have an original Nexus card from way back so should be some in the files here.
They were allocated the WW2 "G" manoeuvre deck, 18 damage points & shoot BBD at short range & BC at long range.

I checked out the A.I.M site they had no 1/144 scale planes.

Had a hunt through the files section couldn't find any P-39 planes with Russian colours.
will keep on hunting for a custom card.

The old Nexus boxed sets had cards for both the Hurricane and P-39 with Russian options and of course the old WWII series 2 release had a Russian Hurricane if you can still find them.

finding it hard enough to find copies of the maneuver decks from the older series so no luck so far trying to find anything from the nexus range.

    will keep on trying.

http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/f (assuming it doesn't cause whatever security software you're running to go berserk).

    Ah sorry Alan!
I thought you were after the 1/200 scale which is what Ares produce for Wings of Glory WW2.
Try Shapeways there may be some 1/144 WW2 models there.

The P-39 has always been oddly under-produced in 1/144, but the re-release a couple of years ago of Revell's "Micro Wings" range of 1/144 plastic kits solves that one nicely - they have a P-39Q which retails at a princely £1.99 in these parts, although you'll need to bodge up Russian markings for it. For that matter they also have a Hurricane, P-40 and P-47 - no actual Russian types though. (Zvezda have a few bits though, including the LaGG-3 that you mentioned wanting.) As for cards, have a look at Max's wonderful collection of home-made cards here - certainly there are several Russian P-39s to get you started:

    http://wingsofwar.org/MaxArt/WGS/

(As an afterthought, it's worth noting that in general Russian aircraft didn't have red stars on top of their wings, but lend-lease ones normally did; eg. for Airacobras the usual colour scheme was to leave them in the original US olive drab, overpaint the white US stars red, and usually paint over the blue of the US roundels with whatever shade of green was available.)

Thx heaps Dom not only the Russian P-39 but the B-25 bomber as well.
Thought the German spitfire was interesting and may even be one I paint up....and the RAF Stuka would be fun for the lad.

A great libaray of art work.
    Thx again.

Yup I got 4 of them on order for him.

I intend to put the British decals on then paint over them and then apply the Russian red stars over the painted out roundel decals.

For the U.S planes just paint around the white stars and then repaint the white stars red.

As some one else stated earlier in the thread that lend-lease planes were usually sent with the country of origins own markings and the Russians just painted them out with green/olive paint (or what ever shade of green they had at the time)

I won't put any decals on the Russian made planes just the lend-lease planes. (Make it easier for him to tell them apart)
