Default OTT ED Mission 3 - Flash - Pricking the Sausage - 15th March 1916

The celebrations began early when they were served Cumberland sausages and mashed potatoes for dinner in the Mess.
"Where have you been hiding these Corporal ?" Lt Stan Still asked the Mess orderly.
"The C.O. got them in special like, in anticipation of the squadrons success, sir" he replied with a smile.
Stan glanced towards the head of the table, the major caught his eye, smiled & raised his glass in salute.
"Snorkers, good oh" said Tim Burr sat beside him and his wing man for that day.

After the usual formalities of a mess dinner they retired to the bar area as usual to again discuss the days events.
"How was it Stan ?" someone asked
"Not too bad, when we got there we could see the wind had turned the beggar round and there was an Eindecker prowling about but we managed to get in behind him - I went straight for the sausage and sent Timothy here to keep the Hun busy..."

    "TIM-BURR" chorused the crowd
"Did you get him ?" someone interjected
Tim coloured up and shouted "Oh do shut up you chaps"
"No he didn't get him but not for want of trying !" laughed Stan "He did his best to keep him out of my hair but he was a slippery customer"

"What about the gas bag ?" a voice asked
"Well that proved quite resilient" grumbled Stan "Didn't help that the blasted gun jammed on the first pass ..."

"Had to dodge that ruddy Hun again when it got away from Tim" he smiled.
"Oh do leave off" replied Tim, "He never touched you !"
"Got some good hits in that pass but it wouldn't catch fire"

"You must have hit the pilot Stan" said Tim "he went straight on losing height for a while after you passed him - I had a go at him but I fluffed it again and he shot me up but then I gave him the slip and when he realised he wouldn't catch me he gave up. A simple yet great scenario -
I rolled a D12 to get which way the balloon was facing - 12 o'clock being the German side & rolled an 11.
I then rolled a D12 to get the position of Kunz' Eindecker relative to the balloon & rolled a 4, then rolled again for its facing and got a 1.
I then rolled D6 to see where the Brits came on, got a 5 so almost right behind the Eindecker, which was nice !
Rolled D12 for the AAMG - when I finally got one - and got a 12.
Played reloads - didn't really interfere with proceedings too much - and I'm sure I made some errors now so need to figure some clearer management for that next time out.
Balloon had lost six levels when it succumbed to fire - and the next card, if I'd shot it, was, of course, a boom card !

Great fun - thankyou Paul !

A very neat action Dave. Just the way it should be done.
I hope that mine goes as well tomorrow.

Thrilling AAR Dave - another win for the RFC and our lads in the trenches should be happier now that Fritz's artillery has lost it's observer!

Thanks chaps - that was a close run thing, I did think they might haul it down before it burnt out but it was not to be and the lads got Cumberlands for tea !

Some great action Dave, a good day out for your chaps.
If only they all went this well.

I don't have a good history with balloons so I was chuffed to get a result without loss for a change - mind you, if I'd rolled above 4 more than once I'm pretty sure I'd have achieved my usual result !

Another scorcher there Dave. You do like to run things down to the last possible...to come up trumps. Well done.
See you on the Dark Side......
