Thread: B-17 and Lancaster base sizes

Default B-17 and Lancaster base sizes

Will the B-17 and Lancaster base sizes be the same size as the Heinkel 111 and B-25?

They will have to balance the speed and target area, both created by the base. They may make the base wider but not longer. They may make the base larger and draw an inner rectangle on it that will be of the He111 base size, and will control the speed. They may not do any of that

They may even do something we don't agree with

That is more than likely to happen considering that apart from the speed issue they have to sort out 8 fire arcs or so on the B-17 base to our likeness. I just hope the boys are gonna google a little better than in case of He-111

They'll probably use a bomber base, though really, it should be at least a wider one.

How do the fire arcs on my B-17 cards look for accuracy?

My attempt to sort out that challenge is here: B-17F.

Perhaps if this is good, they just copy it? Or, if they do something you don't agree with, you could get me to make up something you want to use?

Mike i am sure we will sort it out here, it is a part of the hobby after all
I'll gladly check out your B-17 as soon as i have time to read some documents on it. I don't know much about it right now...

Pretty good; just a few things:
The bombardier has a nose gun good for the front 90 degree arc.
Guns 1 and 2 were both manned by the navigator, so only 1 can shoot at a time.
The top turret (#3) should be 360 degrees higher only. You have the engines blocking fire.
The radio operators gun (#4) should be higher only.
I'm thinking that the waist gunners could shoot closer to the rear, with the tail blocking level and higher at short range.
not having my bombers handy, isn't there a color-coding for the guns that can only shoot higher or lower.

Thanks Karl for making this clear.

And if a guy were about to come into say, a dozen B-24J's what would the base and card want to be like? Just askin'

    A full box of B-24s!!
My first thought is cool; the second, rational one, is unmanageable!
You'd probably need a formation tray, but who knows how unwieldy it would be.

Here is the answer! Keep those hoards of bombers in control! My lazy mans bomber base! Easy to make easier to move!

Ares already answered me. The B-17 and Lancaster bases are of the same size as the B-25 and He-111. I can now rest.
This means that the Ju-88 and Bleinhem have bases the size of the Beaufighter and Me-110.

Mine is McDonald. But a mass base allows one player to run three planes!
