Thread: 1/200 Junkers 52 anyone?

  1. #1

    Default 1/200 Junkers 52 anyone?

I just picked up a couple of these
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1612991948...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I didn't know they existed. It's a bit strange as most of their stuff is in 1/144 but the transports seem to be in 1/200?
I've already invested in couple of Hurricanes and, because they are made for wargaming they just fall together and are strong enough to handle. (The Russian transport looks interesting too)

Zvezda are supposed to be bringing out 1/200 scale models of the Bristol Blenheim, Junkers Ju88 and Petlyakov Pe-2 at some point.

Zvezda have their own WWII wargame rules system that for some reason mixes scales with infantry at 1/72, tanks and vehicles at 1/100, fighter aircraft at 1/144 and bombers and transports at 1/200.
Not sure why but once the range expands a bit it will be a cheap source for additional planes for our game.

I think that they are working on a 'fit the box' philosophy.

Well worth keeping an eye on then. I will be needing a few transports to shoot down over the Med after Christmas, once the Germans figure in my Malta campaign.

    And I'll wait...

You just reminded me that I have 3 Zevda Ju52's. Thought I gave them away but in looking I still have them. Something else to work on.

If you want German transports across the Mediterranean, do not forget the Blohm & Voss Wiking. You can buy 1:200 scale models from Poland via eBay. They would require repainting.

IIRC the Zvesda Junkers 52 does not have a corrugated top, which is a bit strange.

And I already have the BV222 which is very nice.

Steve: I think that it doesn't have the corrugated top due to the way they made the mold.

Not that the corrugations are particularly noticeable on the real thing when viewed at anything more than a few metres anyway......

Interesting Andrzej - during Stalingrad mission (last game of the Con) we played two Ju-52 with two side A guns. This one is some later version?

These are the same versions IMHO, Daniel. The difference is mine have smaller bases, that those used in the Con mission... must check their size...

Chatting to a pal at my gaming club last night, he showed me a colour brochure for the Zvezda wargame. The game is hex based, with each unit needing to fit inside a hex. Thus bigger vehicles/fighter planes/bombers/transports need to be moulded at smaller scales so that they will still fit into a single hex.
I imagine 4-engine bombers would have to be 1/285 or so, B-29s would need to be 1/350 etc.

God save me from all these ideas people keep posting...ok so I bit the bullet and am about to incur the wrath of swmbo again, I ordered 3. Well 1's not enough, 2 don't fly nice so 3 make a nice flight. I'm mad I know, you don't have to remind me.

    Postman arrives at 10. 45.

That is how easy the build is.

Cut the parts from the sprue. All are numbered to coincide with the plan.
Also the locating pegs are handed so you can't put them in wrong.
Just trim the flash line along the top and bottom of the fuselage.
    No other flash is present.
Clip on tail and wings. They are a good fit so glue first as you may not get them out again.

I did the tail first because i found it easier to get a grip on the body of the plane without the main wings in place first as the plans suggested.

Glad to see more and more players are including this big beauty in their collection! You can make fun games with it. We played one in Prague including two of these! Also the Ju52 did their part! They are indeed great to build. Looking forward to your painting Rob!

    Cheers Steve.
I have got to toss up if I do that one or a Desert one I just came across.
Probably that as I'm getting fed up with the Desert ones, an as they were flying things in to Africa from Europe your colour scheme seems the more likely.
    Thanks Rob.

This construction is not unlike the ones I have done Steve, excepting that my Fuselage came as a one piece.
