    Default WWI vs WWII

Of the people here, how many play the WWI game, and how many play the WWII game? Who plays both games?

  2. #2

    Default

Both versions but I tend to WGS the last two years.

    Yes both for me.
Only got into WW2 with the Pacific War but am enjoying it.
Our club tends to play WW1 mostly but then not many have yet got any WW2 models.

    WWI for me.
Just getting into it though I have seen the minis for years every time I visit Brookhurst Hobbies out in Southern California. I had played WW2 air (not WGS) years ago in 1/285-300 scale for a while but never really took to it. Don't know why. I used a lot of nice aircraft and painted them up well. Went through about 6 rules sets, never really landing on one in particular, which could have been the reason. Wanted to get into WWI air for a while now but didn't do it until that fateful day a few months ago when I found an outstanding trade deal. So off went a package of unused painted and unpainted early war WW2 15mm infantry and tanks and in came the package of WGF. No regrets, no looking back. Enjoyed my first game tonight, with wife and daughter and had a blast.

I play both, but WW1 more often.

  6. #6

    Default

I've started with WW2 just two years ago. Now I play both but WW1 still more often.

  7. #7

    Default

Started with WWI and continued with WWII. I have both games now, play WWII more often, but like WWI a little more.

  8. #8

    Default

I started with WWI and played it much more often in the past, but now WWI is becoming more appealing to me and I start to play it more frequently. The reason is I feel like having better control of the planes' maneuvers. 1. the speed, 2. only two cards are preplanned. 3. guns never jam
    Both games are excellent.

I was originally drawn in by WW2 but now have a collection of WW1 as well.

  10. #10

    Default

WW1 for me almost all the time, WW2 once in a while.

  11. #11

    Default

Prefer WW1 but have planes for a BoB and just ordered some a AIM Ju88 and Do17 , as tired of waiting, for the same

  12. #12

    Default

I have both games, but prefer WGS. I was always interested in II WW and I like movement rules with speed counters.

  13. #13

    Default

Started with WGF, tried WGS a few times but really didn't like the feel of it,so now its WGF exclusively for me

  14. #14

    Default

I've playing WWI all along and only this winter/spring started collecting WWII. Have yet to play it but am looking forward to it.

  15. #15

    Default

WWI it took guts to get in a plane made of cloth wood and wires and fight some one all without a parachute, and no self-sealing gas tanks.
I like WWII history and planes but I will stick with WWI only it keeps down the cost.

  16. #16

    Default

    WW1 exclusively.

I have heaps of WW2 in 1/700 scale, and don't want to duplicate.

I couldn't afford to anyway, and I don't have nearly enough time to repaint all my WW1 birds!

  17. #17

    Default

I like WW1 but who can resist WW2's Battle Of Britain and the Pacific Campaigns!

  18. #18

    Default

Like Barry my fellow games in my club tend to play WW1 so I only get a WW2 game in on rare occasions, but I do not mind WW1 or WW2 they are both as good as each other even though they are two completly different games!

  19. #19

    Default

I have, and play, both games, but prefer WGF to WGS. I think the game engine gives a better feel to the WW1 planes.

I am now playing each on about equal terms, but up until the last couple of months would have answered WWI more often.

I'm not voting, as my playing profile isn't represented.

I play WWI, and exceedingly rarely WWII. As I've said before, I'm desparately trying not to collect two wars' worth of planes.

I play both equally in the long run, but I play more one or the other in different lapses of time.
Now I'm almost only playing WGS but in a few weeks from now I'll be playing WGF.

I voted, but you should have had another category; "WWI exclusively, but I buy WWII minis" LOL I voted that I play both, since I do get a WGS game in every couple of years.

If your reading this Trevor, your Spitfire was not in vain. I traded it for another copy of the Red Baron's Dr.I which was repainted into Voss's Dr.I.

ive played wgs twice and wgf many, many times. while i like the history and aircraft of both eras i much prefer the mechanics of wgf over wgs. i really feel the plotting every turn really slows down the spontaneity of gameplay that drew me to wgf in the 1st place (i know, its sounds counter-intuitive but thats how it feels to me). ill still play wgs from time to time (and sails of glory for that matter, when i get around to it) but wgf will always hold the balance of my enjoyment.

I think a lot of us agree with you on this Phillip. Although I enjoy WW2, my heart is really with those magnificent men in their flying machines from WW1.

I enjoy both. I like WWII more because of the mechanics and team work to take down the enemy. If you get a good wing-man it is very hard to defeat a team like that. When they know what each other is thinking and work as a team...its great fun. For a 1-1 then WWI is your game.

I was never going to do WW2, then it was only BoB, then Malta, then just the North Africa campaign!!!

It was getting lonely here. It's nearly July already, and the second batch of Hurricanes will arrive any time now as I am following through the campaign by actual month over the next two years.

    Default Poll comparisons

I ran a similar poll almost exactly two years ago and the results so far on this one are very close to those from 2012.

    I posted the following on 25/7/12 here http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...l=1#post159816 :

The poll is now over with 60 votes, breakdown as follows:

70% prefer to play WGF (42)

    40% play WGF only (24)

    11.7% prefer WGS (7)

    6.7% play WGS only (4)

15% play both WGF and WGS without preference (9)

3.3% don't play but enjoy the game in their own ways (modelling, collecting, etc) (2)

WGF is definitely the version of the game most preferred by members of this site and I suspect most players. It will be interesting to see if with the release of the WGS bombers and series 4 WW2 if WGS can gain some traction.

It will be interesting to see if these percentages have changed once this poll closes.

I didn't vote because I am just starting with WWII. I don't know where I will eventually land, but the few WWII games I have played were a lot of fun. Sven introduced me to the Spitfire Mk. IX at Origins, and I think I fell in love. At present, it is the WWII counterpart to my beloved Fokker D.VII.

Back in the day (2009) I was full on WWI but I but sold off my collection and now that my boy is old enough he wants to play WGS.
He is going to collect Russians and I will continue with Zero Germans.

At the time, I was WW1 exclusive, having no WGS planes.

    T&T WWI
    T&T WWII
    King Kong
    Battlestar Galactica
