After losing a few birds the Huns smartened up and started flying in pairs for mutual protection. I happened upon a pair of Aviatiks heading into our territory and decided to see what kinds of mischief I could inflict upon them.
They were gaudy birds being light blue and violet.

These planes were much faster than the Albatros and it took me a while to close to firing range. I picked on the blue one first and soon had him smoking.

With my drum empty I tried to stay with him while I reloaded.

But then his flying mate approached and I had to divert my attention to him. After exchanging a few rounds I disengaged temporarily to reload.

Fortunately I had the angle on them and was able to close. The violet one was running cover so I had to engage him first. As I moved to starboard he tried to shift his gun to the other side.

He kept drifting to starboard and I had a hard time keeping my port mounted gun trained on him.

It was frustrating business but I finally got a good shot on him and down he went.

But by then the blue Aviatik was long gone. No way was I going to catch him. Disappointed at the one who got away I returned to base.
